JKC receives Innovative Initiative award on -05-08-2010 at eIndia 2010 Conference

Jawahar Knowledge Center initiative has been awarded the innovative initiative under Skill
Development Initiative of the Year 2010. The Award was presented by Smt.Agatha Sangma,
Hon’ble Minister of State for Rural Development, Government of India. The award was
presented to Smt.K.Ratna Prabha, Principal Secretary, Information Technology &
Communications Department, Government of AP and Sri.Amarnath Reddy Atmakuri, Chief
Executive Officer, Institute for Electronic Governance – the implementing agency for JKC
Program.

eIndia conference is conducted annually showcasing eGovernance practices and processes in the
worldwide by bringing together eGov solution providers on a common platform including Policy
makers, planners, the implementing agencies of eGovernance projects. During the eIndia
conference, the best eGovernance initiatives are recognized and rewarded. eIndia awards
acknowledge and felicitate unique and innovative initiatives.

The eIndia awards selection process is unique in true sense – it has the right mix of public
voting and jury evaluation.
Many MNC’s, NGO’s and Government Organizations submitted their nominations under Skill
Development Initiative of the year but Jawahar Knowledge Center Initiative was adjudged the
best Skill development Initiative through Public Voting. Thousands of votes were polled in favor
of JKC Initiative. The extensive public voice / support has been contributed to success achieved
by the JKC’s.

JKC programme is a unique and first of its kind initiative in the country implemented by Institute
of Electronic Governance(IEG) under the aegis of IT&C Dept. The aim of JKC is to strengthen
the quality of graduates coming out of colleges by imparting Industry grade skill sets in both
technical and non technical disciplines. JKC programme brings the ICT Industry, Academia, and
the Government, together to make the graduating students Industry ready. At present, there are
748 JKCs in 414 engineering and 334 degree colleges spread across all regions of the State. So
far, under JKC programme more than 100,000 final year students have been trained and about
25000 have been placed in Global ICT Majors. These includes students from economically and
socially deprived sections of the society and from rural/remote areas of the State. In addition,
another 25,000 students have obtained placements elsewhere. The Government is committed to
encourage the IT HR development in the State. JKCs will be further strengthened, and expanded,
to all engineering and degree colleges in every nook & corner of the State, further Honourable
Chief Minister has released additional funds of Rs. 5 crores for augementation of JKC
Programme.
