Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Quizlet is a great tool for all learners. It is especially usual for students who may need extra review in certain
content areas or units. It also possesses the ability for students to use it at their own pace. This feature allows
students to log in and use it whenever they need more review. The accessibility of this web-based program
also brings great ease to students. Quizlet can be accessed from any mobile device or on the web. It is free
with no login required unless they want to create their own sets.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Prior to the lesson, students will watch a BrainPop video about plants. They will gain an introductory level
understanding of the parts of a plant. After the video, the students will be directed onto NearPod where I will
lead the classroom in a few activities related to the parts of a plant. Students will be using tablets/computers
for this activity. I will introduce the activity as a form of review or a formative assessment.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☒ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:
The SRT activity will be done as a review. The teacher will pull up Quizlet on the smart board. I will select the
flashcard tool on Quizlet. I will start by using the definition side of the flashcard. I will read the definition to
the class. Students will write down their answers on a sheet of paper. If questions are asked the teacher will
lead the class in a group discussion where misconceptions can be answered. Students will then be given 10
minutes to play some of the games that Quizlet offers. During this time the teacher will review the student's
answers. Grades will not be given, this activity is solely done was a formative assessment to gauge
understanding
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☐ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☒ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10): N/A

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not? I believe it is important for the students to first answer all questions before seeing the
correct answer. I do feel as though correct answers should be given, as they are a great way to lead students
in discussions about any misconceptions they might have.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

After the SRT activity is done, I as the teacher will be able to take the data I have collected and used it when
guiding further instruction. Students who need extra practice will be assigned the SRT activity to be done at
home as an added review. Students who have mastered the activity will be allowed to move on and explore
other functions of a pl
How will the data be used?
The data collected from this activity will be used as a formative assessment to gauge understanding. Students
will not be given an actual grade for this assignment. Instead, they will receive mastery or non-mastery. If
students receive mastery they I know they understand the material and can move on. Students who receive
non-mastery will be required to continue review of the topic at home or during free time during that subject.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.

My personal learning goal for this activity is to try and lead discussions in a new and exciting way. I want
students to feel more engaged in their learning. I want students to feel comfortable while expressing their
thought and answering questions. I want to bring technology to all aspects of the classroom, and by doing so I
hope to introduce new and fun learning activities that students can use and engage with. I want to step out of
the old ways of doing things and move into more new and exciting things.

Reflective Practice:
Students will have a better understanding of the parts of a plant. To extend further learning students can
build their own plant. Students may use online designing modules or they may construct one using different
materials gathered from inside or outside of the classroom. I might even call in a plant expert to come to talk
to the students on how plants are made and what special roles plants play in our environment.
