Student Response and Assessment Tools

Lesson Idea Name: Sums of 10

Content Area: Math
Grade Level(s): 1st grade
Content Standard Addressed: MGSE1.OA.6 Add and subtract within 20. b. Fluently add and subtract within
10.

Technology Standard Addressed: 3 –Knowledge Construction

Selected Technology Tool:

☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☒ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☒ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☒ Phone ☒ Tablet (such as iPad)
☒ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☐ Teacher-Paced ☒ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☒ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Students will be provided manipulatives if needed. This skills practice is
an activity that gives all learners the opportunity to be successful. Some may take longer than others but the
practice should be beneficial to all students.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.

Students will use this activity as practice

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: The students will practice sums of 10 so that
they will master fluency of the facts.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Student Response and Assessment Tools
Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not? The more exposure students have to the correct equations that equal sums of 10, to more
fluent they will be. Showing them the correct answers will help commit those equations to memory.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity? Students that master this activity will be moved on to
an activity that has sums of numbers that do not always equal 10, and then to an activity that has sums to 20.

How will the data be used? The results of this activity will be used to assess mastery of the standard. If
students do not score above an 80, they will be given additional help in math center time. The students will
be given center activities for additional practice or moved on to higher sums to scaffold learning. Students
will be given manipulatives if needed for differentiation.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. Math facts are an important skill for building math
knowledge. It is my goal to have students master this skill so that they can learn new concepts. This standard
is based on fluency, and students attain mastery with practice.
Reflective Practice: This lesson would be more effective if there were more questions, leading to more
practice. The more practice students have, the less they have to “think” about the answers and they are
committed to memory.
