Answer two questions from this section.

12 A particle moves along a straight line and passes through a fixed point O with the
velocity of 9 ms–1. Its velocity, v ms–1, t seconds after passing through O is given
by v = ht2 + 3t + k where h and k are constants. The maximum velocity of the

particle is ms–1.

(a) Calculate the value of h and of k.

15 Use the graph paper provided to answer this question.

A company produces two types of bicycles, model A and model B. The


company produces x units of model A and y units of model B daily based on
the following constraints.

I : The ratio of the number of model A to the number of model B is


not less than 1: 2.

II : The total number of bicycles produced is at least 7 units.

III : The number of model A exceeds the number of model B by at


most 3.

(a) Write down three inequalities, other than x  0 and y  0, that satisfy all
the above constraints.

(b) Hence, using a scale of 2 cm to 1 unit on both axes, construct and shade
the region R that satisfies all the above inequalities.

(c) Based on your graph, answer the following questions:

(i) On a particular day only 5 units of model B are produced.


Determine the minimum number of model A produced on that day.

(ii) The cost of producing a unit of model A and model B per day are
RM 800 and RM 600 respectively. Find the minimum cost of
producing the bicycles per day.
