OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY EXPERIENCE


Doctoral Experiential Internship April 2018 to August 2018
Accessible Design Foundation of Japan, Tokyo, Japan
 A 16-week full-time internship experiential learning about universal design and its current implementation to
promote accessibility for all people in society. During this experiential knowledge was first gained by visiting
with many different organizations, companies, and community members in Japan for 12-weeks, before
comparing current implementation for the last remaining 4-weeks in state of Oregon in the United States.

Level IIB Fieldwork January 2018 to March 2018


Sensory Kids LLC, Portland, OR
 A 12-week full-time fieldwork experiential in a pediatric outpatient sensory clinic for children that allowed for
the application of knowledge from the classroom related primarily to sensory processing disorder.
Experiences were also gained in providing treatment sessions with children with: autism, OCD, and ADHD.

Providence Portland Medical Center: Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility, Portland, OR
 A 12-week full-time fieldwork experiential in an inpatient rehabilitation facility setting that allowed for
application of knowledge from the classroom, related to cognitive, psychosocial, neurological, and physical
disability diagnoses such as: CVA, TBI, SCI, hip replacement, MI, vertigo, BKA, myopathy, cancer, COPD,
and more.

Level ID Fieldwork January 2017 to April 2017


Providence St. Vincent Medical Center: Acute Care and Rosewood Park Retirement and Assisted Living Residence
A 6-week experiential at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and another 6-week experiential at
Rosewood Park Retirement and Assisted Living Residence. This part-time fieldwork experience was in a
setting that provided primarily elder services. At Providence St. Vincent there were opportunities to observe
in the cardiac intensive care unit and general intensive care unit, orthopedic and general acute care, and
clinical decision unit. At Rosewood Park there were opportunities to visit with many residents from the
retirement and assisted living side of the facility; engage residents in group led activities; lead group
activities to promote social participation, leisure engagement, and exploration.

Level IC Fieldwork September 2016 to November 2016


Hawthorn Farm Learning Years and Vancouver School District Special Education Classrooms
A 6-week experiential at Hawthorn Farm Learning Years and another 6-week experiential at Vancouver
School District Special Education Classrooms. This part-time fieldwork experience was in a setting that
served primarily pre-school children, toddlers, and infants. At both fieldwork sites there were opportunities to
learn more about pediatric services. Experiences gained at both sites reflected the integration of course
content, and promoted higher levels of critical reasoning.

Washington County Community Corrections Center
A 12-week experiential where various group activities were held with females in the general population;
many participants in this group part-took in deciding different types of leisure activities they wanted to
participate in; and services primarily focused on psycho-social needs of the group members.

Kapio’lani Medical Center for Women and Children, Honolulu, HI
A 2-week full-time fieldwork experiential in a pediatric acute and outpatient setting that allowed
exposure to a variety of ages and diagnoses, as well as other medical professionals. Evaluations and
treatment sessions were observed in the: NICU PICU, oncology unit, family birth center/antepartum (women
in pre-term labor), out-patient rehabilitation services department, burn clinic, assistive technology clinic
(Ho'omana), and cranial-facial and cleft lip and palate clinic. Observations were also completed at the
Kulana Malama, where Kapiolani occupational and physical therapists are contracted to provide
therapy/consultation services to patients who are in transition to home/foster care. Likewise, observation
was done on the fabrication of hand splints, pressure garments for burn/wound care management, as well
as feeding issues/techniques primarily with the NICU and cleft lip/palate population.
