6.1 New Hardware: SLMA3

The new SLMA24, referred to as SLMA3, is a cost-reduced 24-channel analog line card func-
tionally identical to the existing SLMA24 (Q2246), with the following constrains:
1. Message-waiting indication with neon glow lamp is not supported. Message-waiting indi-
cation using Comtel-3 signalling is supported in the same manner as the SLMA 24.
2. The maximum allowable subscriber loop resistance per channel is 2 x 500 Ohms (including
resistance in the telephone). This represents about 3 kilometers of #26 AWG (American
Wire Gauge) cable or about 4.7 kilometers of 0.5-mm diameter cable. This requirement
precludes USA OPS support.
3. The on-board +32-Volt power supply can provide enough current to concurrently ring a ma-
ximum ringer load of 12 REN (ringer equivalence number) per card. The DuSLIC limits a
single channel to a maximum ringer load of 3 European REN or 2 US REN. Features such
as group call/parallel ringing and continuous/emergency ring are impacted.

6.2 Further on Supported Modules

6.2.1 SLMA: Station Line Module Analog

The SLMA module forms the link between analog subscribers and the Hicom system.
Its front panel includes an LED, which lights up as soon as a subscriber becomes active.
Each module contains the circuits for sixteen subscriber lines. Each of these circuits in turn
contains the necessary feed, ringing, and indication circuitry.
The SLMA requires an external ring generator, which supplies the necessary voltage and po-
wer. A separate ring generator is assigned for every three line trunk units (LTUs). The applica-
tion of the ring tone takes place on the SLMA by means of a relay on the ring wire. The ring
cadence is controlled by the SLMA charge process.
Ring voltage: Effective voltage 65 V or 85 V (to ground)
Frequency: 25 Hz or 50 Hz
The operating range is 2 x 750 9. However, this may be restricted somewhat if pushbutton te-
lephones are used.
To increase the range, you can connect a negative impedance repeater and a remote extension
box. The remote extension box must have a current limitation of approximately 40 mA and be
looped into the tip wire.
Installation should take place at the terminal.
In the event of faults on the subscriber loop, the power supply is deactivated by means of a com-
mand in order to prevent excessive power consumption (I max = 2 mA).
In the case of an SLMA with SICOFI, the country-specific settings must be defined in the
COFIDX parameter of the AMO SCSU.

6.2.2 SLMA2: Subscriber Line Module Analog

The SLMA2 module provides 24 analog subscriber line circuits, and supports all analog PABX
terminal functions. Its functionality is more comprehensive than that of the SLMA module, but
is fully compatible with the SLMA. Each of the 24 lines can be assigned directly to one of the
128 time slots (channels) of an LTUE shelf.
● Call signaling
● Supervision function
● Analog/digital conversion
● Testing (loopback)

6.2.3 SLMAR: Subscriber Line Module Analog Rural (V2.0)

As of V2.0, it is possible to connect a coinbox telephone to Hicom 300 E.
The following call charge types are supported:16 KHz, 12 KHz, and a/b polarity reversal.
The SLMAR also has an extended range of up to 3000 Ohm.

● Special administration is required in Hicom 300 for call charge computing.

● The call charge type (16 KHz, 12 KHz, etc.) can be configured separately for each port.
● The SLMAR also allows you to extend the range of analog terminals.
● A special clock is configured in the Hicom system for call charges.

6.2.3.1 Call Charges for Analog Telephones

● The extended loop feature and the feature for sending charge pulses are mutually exclusi-
ve.
● The level setting is defined using the AMO SCSU and is dependent on the terminal and the
length of the line.

6.2.3.2 Extended Line

● Terminals with a loop resistance of up to 3000 Ohm (including the terminal) can be con-
nected to the SLMAR.
● It is possible to connect up to two analog telephones per port.
● An extended loop in the call status requires approximately the same power supply as two
normal analog terminals.
● The ringing ac current for the terminal is generated on the module. The ring current from
the ring current generator is not used.
● The limit for the extended terminal is the power supply of the system.
● When configuring terminals, the module checks whether or not an increased power supply
is required. If not, a message is output indicating that a standard SLMA should be used.

6.2.4 SLMQ: Subscriber Line Module Digital ANSI-U

The SLMQ module provides the line terminators of sixteen two-wire digital interfaces in accor-
dance with the ANSI-U procedure.
It acts as a basic access for ISDN terminals with extremely long lines (5.5 - 9 km).
The ANSI-U interface of the SLMQ can be used to connect up to eight S0 terminals via a PNTQ
network interface with an S0 bus or one terminal with an ANSI-U interface directly. In the case
of an ANSI-U terminal with an integrated PNTQ, you can also connect up to seven additional
S0 terminals.
For each ANSI-U interface, it is possible to remotely power either one ANSI-U terminal or the
PNTQ and one S0 terminal during emergency operation.
Each ANSI-U interface represents an ISDN basic access with a transmission capacity of two
B-channels (each 64 kbit/s) for voice/data and one D-channel (16 kbit/s).
As an option, the two B-channels can be connected through to time slots of the PCM highways
on the system side.
Of the three possible data types of the D-channel (s, p, t), only s-data (signaling) is handled.
This is exchanged between the ANSI-U interface and Common Control.

Since the SLMQ module occupies up to sixteen wire pairs, it can only be installed in
the system at odd-numbered slots in the cabinet configuration. The slot to the right of
the module must be kept free.
The front panel of the module includes an LED.

6.2.5 SLMO: Subscriber Line Module, UP0/E Interface

The SLMO module provides the line terminators for two-wire digital user access lines via
UP0/E interfaces. This is a variant of the standard digital interface UP0. Each UP0/E interface re-
presents an ISDN basic access with a transmission capacity of two B-channels (each 64 kbit/
s) for voice/data and one D-channel (16 kbit/s). Terminals with a UP0/E interface or an S0 inter-
face can be connected to the D-channel directly or via an S0 terminal adapter in the UP0/E ter-
minal. It is possible to connect up to two terminals plus supplementary devices to each line unit.
Terminals can be powered remotely via the UP0/E interfaces.

6.2.6 SLMO24: Subscriber Line Module, UP0/E Interface

The SLMO module has 24 UP0/E interfaces.
It is possible to simultaneously operate up to three devices (up to three message sources) on
the same subscriber line.
Terminals can be powered remotely via the UP0/E interfaces. The energizing voltage can be
switched on and off separately for each port. An automatic disconnect component protects
against overload currents (sustained short-circuit proof).
The SLMO module offers interfaces for two-wire digital subscriber lines in accordance with the
UP0/E standard. Each UP0/E interface represents a basic access with two B-channels (each
64 Kbit/s) for user data transmission and one D-channel (16 Kbit/s) for the signaling data. Ter-
minals with a UP0/E interface can be connected to the D-channel directly, while those with an
S0 interface can be connected to the D-channel via an Optiset ISDN adapter or a PNTE. It is
possible to connect up to two UP0/E terminals plus supplementary devices to each port.
Terminals can be powered remotely via the UP0/E interfaces.

6.2.7 TMBD: Trunk Module Bundespost BRD

The TMBD trunk module (four circuits per module) can be used both for signaling via the main
station interface (MSI) and for DID signaling via the pulse signaling system.
In both cases, it is possible to have both one-way and two-way signaling with or without 16 KHz
call detail recording.
The current mode of operation is set in the circuit data. The individual circuits on the module
can thus be operated differently.
The level setting for call detail recording and line attenuation is defined for each circuit using
three dip fix switches on the module.
The front panel of the module includes four LEDs and four disable/enable keys.

6.2.8 STMD: Station/Trunk Module Digital S0

The STMD module combines the functions of the TMD and SLMS onto a single board. It con-
tains eight circuits with an S0 interface.
The front panel of the module includes eight LEDs.
● TMD mode
In TMD mode, the STMD allows you to connect the Hicom 300 system to standard four-wire S0
interfaces, which can be fed either by an ISDN local exchange or an ISDN PABX.
It provides a reference clock derived from the S0 clock, with which the system clock generator
can be synchronized.

Siemens Hardware: Examples for Connections to HiPath 4000

● SLMS mode
In SLMS mode, the module provides the ISDN S0 basic access for terminal equipment (TEs).
The behavior is the same as for network terminators (NTs). Only point-to-point operation is sup-
ported. It is not possible to power the connected terminals.
Each S0 interface represents a basic access with a transmission capacity of two B-channels
(each 64 kbit/s) for voice/data and one D-channel (16 kBit/s).
As an option, the two B-channels can be connected through to time slots of the PCM highways
on the system side. Of the three possible data types of the D-channel (s, p, t), s-data (signaling)
and p-data (packet switching) are handled. This is exchanged between the S0 interface and
Common Control (CC) or the packet handler.
The maximum line length (to the NT) is 1000 m.

Since the STMD module occupies sixteen wire pairs, it can only be installed in the sys-
tem at odd-numbered slots in the cabinet configuration. The slot to the right of the
module must be kept free.

6.2.9 STMD2: Station/Trunk Module Digital S0 + SLMS2 Station Line

Module Digital S0
The STMD2 module combines the functions of the STMD and SLMS onto a single board. The
STMD module provides all features from earlier modules. It contains eight trunks with S0 inter-
faces. Each S0 interface (four-wire) represents a basic access with two B-channels (each 64
kbit/s) for voice/data transfer and one D-channel (16 kbit/s).
Please refer also to the descriptions of the STMD and SLMS modules.
The new modules use a SIPAC connector on the backplane.
● The front of the module includes two LEDs.
● Flash protection is integrated in the module.
● The cabling to the MDF is different to that of the SLMS and the STMD. The STMD2 uses
an unshielded 24 twin-wire cable.
The new module can only be used in Hicom 300 hardware systems with a version greater than
or equal to Hicom 300 E V3.0.
Module variants
The two variants of the new STMD2 module replace the STMD and SLMS modules:
Q2163-X 000 Trunk/subscriber card for the STMD2 function (without power supply)
Q2163-X100 Subscriber card for the SLMS2 function (with power supply)

6.2.10 DIU-N2 / DIU-N4: Digital Interface Unit ISDN (V3.0)

The designation DIU-Nx is used here to refer to both the DIU-N2 and DIU-N4 modules. These
modules must be designed such that they can be connected to both public and private E1 net-
works and subscribers. In addition, they must fulfill the requirements of the Nx64 kbit feature.
DIU-Nx modules are connected to public and private networks via S2 interfaces. They provide
two/four ports for this purpose. If the LTUCX is installed in an LTUW shelf, the DIU-Nx can choo-
se between the “old”” and “new” PCM highways. However, if an LTUCE is installed in the LTUW
shelf, the DIU-Nx is automatically connected to the “old” PCM highways.

On the DIU-N2, the access point for fiber optic cables can be located on both the front and the
rear, while the access point for copper cables is always located on the front.
On the DIU-N4, the access point for both fiber optic and copper cables is always on the front.

LEDs
The front panel of the module includes two LEDs.
To help service personnel, the DIU-Nx has a red LED and a green LED. The red LED is also
used to signal the results of the module self-test. Parallel to this, the output (TOUT) is connec-
ted to a pin of the module connector. The signal is “active low”.

Module variants

DIU-N2 S30810-Q2196-X
DIU-N4 S30810-Q2195-X

6.2.10.1 Module Functions

1. DIU-N2
The DIU-N2 provides two types of fiber optic interface. Both ports can be accessed either via
the “old” interface on the backplane or via the “new” optical interface on the front of the module
(15-pin sub-D). The line selector only activates one of the two interfaces. Following a system
reset, the optical interface on the backplane connector is automatically activated. It is possible
to use both multimode and monomode fiber optic cables.
● Line access
– If you use the optical interface on the backplane, ports #0 and #1 can only be ac-
cessed via the old APCFM and APCFL adapters (S30807-Q5446 and S30807-
Q5422).
When operating in mixed mode, APCFM/L adapters cannot be used in the DIU-N2.
(Do not connect the copper cable to port #1 of the adapter.)
● If you use the optical interface on the front of the module, the ports can be accessed via
an optoelectrical converter (specially developed for this purpose) connected with a 15-pin
sub-D. It is possible to use both multimode and monomode fiber optic cables.
2. DIU-N4
The DIU-N4 provides an optical interface for each port. This can be accessed via the 15-pin
sub-D connector on the front of the module.
Interface for copper cables
The physical interface of both ports of the DIU-Nx module is formed by two line pairs: one for
receiving and one for sending.

20

Hardware: Examples for Connections to HiPath 4000 Siemens

● Line access
– Copper cables can only be connected to the ports of the DIU-Nx via two/four 15-pin
sub-D connectors on the front of the module. The DIU-N4 is also capable of handling
resistances of 1009. The line selector chooses the most suitable resistance for the line
terminator (759 (LWPS=2) 1209(LWPS=0) 1009 (LWPS=1) for the DIU-N4). When
connecting coaxial cables, a resistance of 759 is required. In the case of shielded twis-
ted pair cables (2x2x0.6/PE, S30267-Z167), a resistance of 1209 is required. In the
case of shielded twisted pair cables from AT&T (type 1251) or United Wire&Cable (P/
N 21251), you must choose a line resistance of 1009 (for the DIU-N4 only). Copper
cables are connected directly to the 15-pin sub-D connector of the module (without an
adapter).
– The resistance for the line terminator is set in the LWPS parameter of the AMO
TDCSU.
Copper cables cannot be connected to the DIU-N2 ports via the SIPAC connector on the mo-
dule backplane. In the DUI-N2 module, the APCFM/L adapter can only be used to connect fiber
optic cables. The 9-pin sub-M connector of this adapter must be kept free.

6.2.11 STHC: Subscriber Trunk Hybrid Card (V3.0)

● The STHC module combines the functions of the STMD and SLMO modules.
Please refer to the descriptions of the STMD and SLMO modules.
It optimizes the peripheral cards for smaller configurations. By combining the functions of se-
veral cards into one card, it reduces the number of slots used. The new STHC can be operated
parallel to the STMD and SLMO cards. It has four S0 and sixteen UP0E interfaces. The assign-
ment of ports to STMD and SLMO24 functions is fixed and cannot be freely configured.
The UP0E and S0 interfaces have the following features:
UP0E interface:
● Digital, 2-wire interface
● A terminal with UP0E oder S0 can be connected via an S0 terminal adapter
● -48V remote power via UP0E
● Maximum cable length approximately 1000 m
● High performance

6.2.13 LTUCE: Line Trunk Unit Control, Extended

The LTUCE module forms the interface between the central and peripheral entities of the sys-
tem. It contains interfaces to the MTSCG/SICOE and QDCL modules of both central control-
lers. Signaling to and from the central controller is symmetric. On the peripheral side, the LTU-
CE has an interface for asymmetric signal transfer to and from the peripheral modules in the
shelf. The LTUCE selects the signals of the controller currently active, and forwards them to the
corresponding modules in the LTU shelf (the term “LTU shelf” is used here to represent all va-
riants of the peripheral shelf, including basic and expansion shelves of the compact variants).
It also receives signals from the peripheral modules and forwards them to the central controller.

Siemens Hardware: Examples for Connections to HiPath 4000

6.2.14 RG: Ring Generator

The ring generator produces alternative ac currents of 65 V or 85 V at a frequency of 25 Hz or
50 Hz for calls to analog subscribers or for ac signaling in tie traffic. When used as a ring current
generator, the ringing ac current is grounded at pinout 1. When used as a signaling ac genera-
tor, the ac current for the signal is transmitted symmetrically on pinout 2.
The ac lines are interconnected in the cabinets via three LTUS in Hicom 340.1/370.1 or two
LTUS in Hicom 390.1. The power output for each generator is 10 VA.

Only one ring current generator (pinout 1) and one ac current generator (pinout 2) can
be used in each group (three LTUS in Hicom 340.1/370.1 or two LTUS in Hicom
390.1). The modules must not be connected in parallel.

In the case of higher power or security requirements, a generator can be configured for each
shelf and mode of operation. In this case, the relevant Faston connections must be removed.
If the module operates as a signaling ac generator, all TMBCT modules will be locked by the
dependability system when the module is unplugged.
The desired mode of operation and the voltage (65 V or 85 V) are set using the AMO BCSU.

Up to issue level 12, the front panel of the module includes an LED and two test
sokkets. The LED lights up when the output voltage falls below 30 V. The test sockets
are used to measure the voltage.

12 New Hardware

12.1 High Performance DP Boards DPC5 / DSCX

With the introduction of extensive application running on top of UnixWare 7, as planned for
HiPath 4000 V1.0; the performance requirements wil increase greatly.
The redesigned boards have to be available for Hicom Unity V1.0 with minimal impact to the
existing Hicom 300E architecture. This means:
● Using Socket 7, x86 compatible CPU to ensure that only minor HW redesign is necessary
● Keeping the passive cooling concept to avoid major redesign in Dependability.
Investigation showed that the AMD K6-IIIE/400 processor with 400 MHz clock rate as the best
choice. This processor has 2 x 32 kB integrated level-one chache and 256 kB integrated level-
two chache. This will bring additional performace enhancement without additional space re-
quirement.
The performace messurements with prototypes show almost linear performance increase with
the clock rate, both or RMX and UnixWare 7.
The prototype boards show that the CPU heating remains in the range that passive cooling is
sufficient.
The performance enhanced DPC5/DSCX used as ADP contiues to provide low cost internal
servers for Hicom 300E

13.1 MTSCG: Memory Time Switch and Clock Generator (Q2224)

The MTSCG is a central module. It combines the functionality of an MTS64 or MTS128 memory
time switch and an NCG (Network Clock Generator) in Hicom 350 E. It thus provides both the
channel switching function for the HWYs and the clock supply functions for the system (external
and internal activation and synchronization of the reference clock, as well as system clock sup-
ply). It applies the same timing as the NCG-X100 and MTS64 in relation to the clocks and high-
ways.
The MTS section of the module only provides the first 2048 time slots (LTU 1 to LTU 7). The
remaining 2048 time slots can be found on the SICOE-X.

Features of the MTSCG module

● The MTSCG module is a combination of an MTS (MTS64) and NCG-X100.
● The MTSCG and SICOE / -X100 variant can be used to supply LTUs 1 through 7 (256 time
slots for SIU and CONF).
The MTSCG and SICOE / -X variant can be used to supply LTUs 1 through 15, where LTUs
8 through 15 are connected to the SICOE.
● The clock supply (system clock and reference clock) to LTUs 8 through 15 is controlled by
the SICOE.
● In the event of faults in the area of LTUs 8 through 15 but not in LTUs 1 through 7, check
the SICOE, the MTSCG connection to the SICOE, and the driver on the MTSCG.
● An AECB (Atlantic External Clock Box) can be connected via the panel connector.
This provides an NCG-X functionality as in the system 350ECX, i.e. the clock generator is
rated as networking or stratum 3 quality as required for the top hierarchical clock levels.
The 25-pin mini sub-D socket is not a V.24 interface, as it is fitted with special pins.
● The AECB is not installed in the Hicom cabinet. It is a 19-inch device that requires a 48V
power supply.
● If the external clock supply (AECB) fails, this is not signaled on the 7-segment display of
the MTSCG. An error message is generated, however, and is output to the videotex termi-
nal.
Please refer also to the description of the AECB.
● After an MTSCG with a connected AECB is reset, it is switched to another class and assi-
gned another hardware ID: normally C04xH, with an AECB C05xH.
● The 7-segment display belongs to the clock generator.
● The green and red LEDs refer to the status of the entire module.
● The accuracy of the MTSCG clock is the same as that of the NCG-X100 (10E-6).

13.2 SICOE: Signaling Unit with Conference and Extension (Q2234)

The SICOE module is used to supply the Hicom 350 ECX system with audible tones, an-
nouncements, and Music On Hold and the memory time switch extension.
It consists of:
● a signaling unit with conference (SICO)
● a memory time switch extension (MTS)
These two components are installed in the central shelf.

52

Hardware: Further on Supported Hardware Siemens

The SICOE provides the following functions:

● audible tone supply
● audible tone detection
● DTMF code detection
● short announcements
● Music On Hold (MOH)
● conference calls
● test generator, test receiver
It is thus a key functional unit in the LTG of the 350 ECX.

Module variants:
● SICOE with MTS extension Q2234-X
● SICOE without MTS extension Q2234-X100

The SICOE must not be plugged or removed while it is live.

The front panel of the module includes a red LED and a green LED.

13.3 QDCL:
L: Quad Data Communication Link (Q2113)
The QDCL module provides the interface between peripherals and the central data processor
(the abbreviation DP will be used to refer to the DP4L or DM3L) of the Hicom 350 ECX system.
It must be capable of serving 16 two-way HDLC lines (15 LTU + 1 SICOE) in the direction of
peripherals. Communication with the DP takes place via an external dual port RAM (Dual Port
RAM external = DPRe), which allows for independent asynchronous access via the multibus
on the DP side or via a local bus within the QDCL.
The QDCL is divided into two functional units: a central unit for the multibus interface (= Central
Message Processor CMP) and a peripheral unit (= Line Processor LP). The CMP and LP com-
municate via an internal dual port RAM (DPRi).

13.4 HUBC: Hub Controller (Q2143)

The HUBC module forms the basis for the Ethernet star topology. It has eight 10 BaseT ports
(Twisted Pair Ethernet, 10 Mbit/s). Three LAN subscribers are hard-wired within the module via
the backplane (ADP, CC-A, CC-B). The remaining five ports can be accessed at the front of the
module via RJ45 sockets (Mini Western). They can be used to connect external servers, LAN
subscribers, or hubs for internal system networking.
The (modified) multibus-1 interface to the ADP or CC-ADP allows you to control the eight LAN
ports. The HUBC is thus a fully integrated (intelligent) hub.
In a duplex or simplex dual system, the HUBC is installed in slot 40 and controlled by the ADP
(DM3L in slot 46). In a simplex mono system, it is installed in slot 52 and controlled by the CC-
ADP (DM3L in slot 58).

13.5 WAML: Wide Area Network Access Module LAN (Q2205)

The WAML module acts as an IP router between the Hicom LAN (ALAN), an external LAN
(ELAN), and the ISDN lines.
It allows for communication between the following entities:
● Hicom LAN <->
> external LAN
● Hicom LAN <-> ISDN
● External LAN <-> ISDN
The ALAN(ATL) interface is an RJ45 socket. The ELAN(EXT) interface can be an RJ45 socket,
a coax phone jack, or a 15-pin Cannon socket, only one of which can be used.
The WAML module communicates with the PABX via an HDLC line (High Level Data Link Con-
trol). The voice multiplex lines are used exclusively for user data transmission.

13.6 MO Drive 1.3 GB

The magneto-optical devixe with a capacity of 1.3 GB for the switch and the DMP5L is being
introduced in order to guarantee the software upgrade/update as an alternative boot medium
and the backup of data in the HiPath 4000 system.
DAT drives an older MO devices (< 1.3 GB) are not supported by the switch nor the DMP5L in
the HiPath 4000 V1.0.
The software used must be adapted in order to be able to operate MO media with a block size
of 2,048 bytes. This also applies to RMX, UNIX and all RMX tools.
In particular, it must be taken into account that the use of the 1.3 GB MO in HiPath 4000 V1.0
requires the following functions:
● Double recording on MO
● Backup of the RMX and UW7 data on an MO disk and the bootability of the MO disk for the
RMX system.
● The MO drives is used in every nity system (switch). (Space is available on the HD holder).

14 IP Distributed Architecture

14.1 Feature Description

HiPath 4000 offers the possibility of distributing access points across an IP network. These ac-
cess points are shelves which accommodate the standard HiPath 4000 access modules. The
subscriber line circuits at the access points are handled precisely as if they were linked directly
- as has been customary in the past - to a HiPath 4000 switch. Administration of all components
distributed via IP is also realized as one system via an access point of the HiPath 4000 system.

Siemens Hardware: IP Distributed Architecture

The "IP distributed architecture" comprises the following main components:

● HiPath 4000 The communication server, which also controls all components
of the "IP Distributed Architecture". The rich volume of call pro-
cessing features is thus also available to the "IP Distributed Ar-
chitecture".
● HiPath HG 3570 This IP gateway module allows payload connections between
subscriber line/CO and tie trunk circuits in the central part of the
HiPath 4000 system and subscriber /CO and tie trunk circuits in
the distributed access points.
● IP Access Points There are two types of IP-based access points
● HiPath AP 3300 IP This traditional 38" Flexpack shelf with IP integration offers six-
teen slots for HiPath 4000 peripheral modules
● HiPath AP 3500 IP This new 19" shelf (three units high), which can be mounted in
a 19" rack, allows inexpensive configurations for small locations.
As a basic box, it offers three slots for HiPath 4000 peripheral
modules. The number of slots can be increased to seven with
an AP 3505 IP expansion box (three units high). In contrast to
the HiPath AP 3300 IP, both the HiPath AP 3500 IP and the Hi-
Path AP 3505 IP expansion box can be equipped with a redun-
dant power supply.
Both types of access point are equipped with a HiPath HG 3575 connection module,
which establishes the connection to the IP infrastructure (10/100BT).
The IP-based access points allow the use of the majority of current and future modules
which can be operated in classic HiPath 4000 shelves.

The HiPath HG 3570 and HG 3575 modules are each equipped with a 10/100BT Ethernet con-
nection for connecting to the IP network.

Hardware: IP Distributed Architecture Siemens

14.1.1 Scalable Increase in System Capacities

HiPath 4500 supports up to 83 access points linked via IP (AP 3300 IP or AP 3500/3505 IP),
in addition to the maximum of 15 directly linked shelves (AP 3300).
HiPath 4300 supports up to 40 access points linked via IP (AP 3300 IP or AP 3500/3505 IP),
in addition to the maximum of 3 directly linked shelves (AP 3300).
Thus, the maximum number of digital subscriber line circuits in a system can be increased to
12000.

14.1.2 Distributed Circuit Switching

With HiPath 4000 V1.0, the circuit switching of the payload (B-channels) is not limited to the
central switching network
● Calls within IP-based access points are switched to a local TDM switching network directly
and, consequently, without runtime in the IP network. The switching network on the HiPath
HG 3575 module has a capacity of 256 channels.
● Calls between different IP-based access points are switched in the IP network.
● Calls which go beyond IP-based access points are switched both in the IP network and in
the central HiPath 4000 system.

14.1.3 Survivability for Signaling and Payload

Survivability for signaling and payload ensures that HiPath 4000 also offers the greatest avai-
lability in distributed operation. The public telephone network can be used as an alternative rou-
te in the event of an IP network failure or if the IP network temporarily fails to provide the requi-
site quality for voice transmission.

Payload
Survivability for payload uses regular trunk circuits in the public telephone network. The route
for payload survivability can also be selected automatically as a spillover route if the entire ca-
pacity of the HG3575 is already in use in the IP network.

Signaling
Survivability for signaling ensures that an access point can be controlled centrally by the HiPath
4000 at all times. If the direct route for signaling via the IP network fails, an alternative route is
established via a modem route.

14.1.4 Additional Features

● High voice quality
On account of the system-induced long delay of the voice signal in the IP network, echo is
negatively noticeable, unless it is removed prior to the transmission. The HiPath HG 3575
module has an integrated echo canceller, while the HG 3570 uses the echo canceller of
the LTUCC-X300 module of the shelf in which it is installed.
● Low bandwidth requirement
If voice is transmitted via IP in uncompressed form (pursuant to G.711), the bandwidth re-
quirement is greater than in the case of ISDN on account of the packaging in the IP proto-
col.
If less bandwidth is to be occupied, the voice signal can be compressed. HiPath HG 3570
and HG 3575 offer optional compression pursuant to the G.729A standard. (only 8 kbps,
instead of 64). Furthermore, additional bandwidth can be saved by suppressing voice pau-
ses. Silence suppression suppresses the transmission of silence on the line.
