Soil Mechanics to others is just a subject taken as a requirement to

complete the academic curriculum of any particular program course. But for
those students taking up the Civil Engineering program this subject is one of the
major in their curriculum. Civil engineering students must have a proper
understanding in soil mechanics. But how can it actually help in the attainment
of a goal? Have you learned in this subject?

Soil mechanics is the branch of engineering mechanics that describe the

behavior of soils. Soil Mechanics is not an easy like other courses. It's not like you
have to substitute the value in the formula, but in this course you have to
understand the concepts of each topic. During my time, fourth year second
semester while taking this course it was hard for me to understand the concepts
but I enjoyed it in the end. I also enjoyed the laboratory in this course, I have
learned the different process of the experiment of the soil such as compaction,
consistency and permeability of the soil. I have also learned the various
properties of the soil to be used for various engineering construction works.
Without considering the soil, there is a big possibility of failure in the building
project. The importance of soil mechanics can help the future engineer and
other professional engineers to calculate onto what kind of foundation to be
used so that they can have an adequate support to the structure.

As a student of this subject, soil mechanics helps me to develop my critical

thinking and problem solving. In terms of personal competence, I've learned so
many things that happen in this course in each topic. In terms of critical thinking
and problem solving skills I've learned to think more critically in every problem
they give to us. Before, I use to find hard time to understand the concepts of this
course. But time comes that it becomes normal for me to understand it. And I
what I use to do now is to apply that understanding and do critical thinking in
order to solve every problem.

Theory of structures is a fundamental concept of structural behavior.

Theory of structure is not an easy like other courses. It's not like you have to
substitute the value in the formula, but in this course you have to understand the
concepts of each topic. During my time, fourth year second semester while
taking this course it was hard for me to understand the concepts but I enjoyed it
in the end. This courses provides the students to understand and to calculate the
stability, strength and rigidity of built structures for buildings.

As a student of this subject, soil mechanics helps me to develop my

critical thinking and problem solving. In terms of personal competence, I've

 Ethics is one of the requirements to fulfill our curriculum. Most of the students say
that this subject should not be included in the curriculum because it is not that
important and should already be part of an individual. Ethics has been defined
as the philosophical science dealing with the morality of human. As a student
who's currently enrolled in ethics, it should still be in the curriculum because most
of the students don’t know how to respect others and they don’t know the right
manners. Our generation today is very different from the previous generation
because they say that Filipinos are hard to define. But how does ethics helps you
to attain TIP graduate attribute?
TIP wants the students to learn something unique. Even though we had only
few weeks with our instructor. I really enjoyed our ethics class and I learned a lot.
Those things we learned in this subject can be applied in our daily lives. As a
student, ethics is a very important subject because it provides the principles on
the morality of human acts. It helps me develop my critical thinking and
problem solving skills. It helps me to think more critical on every situation we
encounter and through problem solving skills it helps me to handle a problems.
In terms of social and ethical responsibility TIP wants us to practice the 5S inside
and outside the school. It’s not only the 5S TIP wants to practice but also our
Filipino values that it should still exist in our generation.
Psychology is one of the requirements to fulfill our curriculum. Most of the students who are taking
up this subject describe it as more on memorizing terminologies. Psychology is the study of the mind
and human behavior of a person. It is also an applied science which seek the understanding of an
individual. For those who are taking up Psychology they are motivated to learn. They desire to
understand the human behavior. As a student it is important to know more about the Psychology
and how it can be apply for our daily lives. But how does Psychology help you attain TIP graduate
attributes? TIP graduate attribute wants the student to learn something unique. Even though we had
only few meetings with our instructor, I enjoyed our Psychology class and I learned a lot about it and
how it can be applied in our daily lives. As a student of Psychology, it helped me develop my critical
thinking and problem solving skills. It helped me to think more critical to understand more about the
subject. With this skill, it enhances my skills and I'll be able apply to use it in my future profession. In
terms of social and ethical responsibility we practice the 5S inside and outside of the school. It’s
better to practice yourself with this manner because we can apply it our daily lives. TIP wants the
students to develop those skills and those graduating students still attain those attributes so that
they can still apply it for their future profession.
