6.2 Reflection: Candidates regularly evaluate and reflect on their professional practice and
dispositions to improve and strengthen their ability to effectively model and facilitate
technology-enhanced learning experiences. (PSC 6.2/ISTE 6c)
Artifact: Blog Entries
The artifact that I chose to demonstrate mastery of Standard 6.2 Reflection is the Blog Entries
written for ITEC 7430 Internet Tools in the Classroom. The artifact consists of a series of blog
entries in which several topics on instructional technology are discussed. The artifact is perhaps
one of the most rewarding experiences for me because it allowed me to share my ideas with
others in the field.
The Blog Entries demonstrate mastery of Standard 6.2. The reason why this artifact is so
powerful is because it allowed me to utilize digital communication and collaboration tools to
evaluate and reflect with others about my learning experiences related to technology
instruction. This is extremely powerful since educators need each other in order to grow. That is,
when we share our ideas and thoughts with others, we are expanding our knowledge. The ability
to collaborate with others is what makes technology so appealing to the masses. More than ever,
people rely on technology to communicate with others at the social and academic level. I believe
teachers should have the opportunities to share with others in order to grow as professionals.
Many of the blog entries that I created were related to using and/or exploring digital tools to
maximize learning. Moreover, I also had the opportunity to discuss what other teachers where
doing which means I was learning new things. At the end of each Instructional Technology class,
I had to write a blog entry about our experience in the class. This was a great way for me to
reflect on my learning which is extremely important since I am always striving to provide high
quality learning experiences to all my students.
This artifact helped me develop a feeling of pride for my work. I wanted other teachers to use the
resources I was showing them. I knew that in order for them to adopt what I was proposing, I
needed to become an expert in the field. That is, I always presented my best work in order to
inspire others to incorporate technology in their classroom. It was important for me to establish a
positive relationship with my peers in order to support them better in their technology needs.
The impact of this artifact can be assessed through teacher buy-in. That is, as educators, we
should always strive to support other teachers. One way to do this is to provide them with
mentors and leaders that allow them the opportunity to grow and improve their craft. Moreover,
if teachers model great work ethics and enthusiasm for learning, then they are more likely to
instill those values in their students. Finally, learning to interact and collaborate with others in
order to reach a common goal can be a difficult task; therefore, it is important that, as
professionals, we learn appropriate ways to interact and to build each other in order to be
successful.
