Now is our opportunity to get another great Justice in the mold of Justice Scalia. President
Trump’s first nominee, Justice Neil Gorsuch, has already left his mark on the Court by protecting
religious liberty and free-speech rights of pro-lifers and Americans several times this term. We
deserve another great Justice who will listen to both sides of an argument and interpret the
Constitution as it was written, unlike some Justices on the Court who believe they should impose
their own personal views, legislating from the Supreme Court bench.
That is why Students for Life of America (SFLA) has compiled this #Justice4Life Action Kit for any
pro-life activist or pro-life group that wants to use it. In this kit, you will find practical tips for how
you can help ensure President Trump’s next nominee to the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh, is
confirmed.
If you have any questions about how to use this kit, please feel free to e-mail the SFLA Regional
Coordinator in your area or e-mail Matt Lamb at mlamb@studentsforlife.org. You can also reach
Students for Life headquarters anytime by calling (540)834-4600.

Talking Points
Before you start making phone calls to your U.S. Senators and writing letters to local
newspapers, you need to make sure you have solid and simple talking points to use. Remember
that you will likely be trying to convince someone who does generally not agree with you, to take
what you say seriously. Here are some key talking points when speaking to a reporter, a Senate
staffer, or U.S. Senator themselves.
First, find out where your Senator will be by the week of the August recess, August 5th through
the 11th by calling their Senate office; you can find how who your Senator is and get the contact
information for their Washington and state offices here; https://www.senate.gov/senators.
Simply call, say that you are a constituent, and ask them for the Senator’s schedule.
Second, show up to the town hall with your question ready. Remember that a Senator is less
likely to call on someone who is clearly in disagreement with them, so dress in normal clothes
without any political insignia.
Third, if you can, bring someone else with you to film you asking the question. At a minimum,
you can record the interaction on your phone. Remember to record horizontally and to send the
video to Matt Lamb at mlamb@studentsforlife.org immediately after.
1. I am a pro-life voter in this state. Will you pledge to support Judge Brett Kavanaugh?
If you want to ask your Senator how he or she will vote on defunding Planned Parenthood, a
late-term abortion ban, or other pro-life related issues, that is fine too, but the goal should be to
get them on record on their position for the Supreme Court nominee.
First, look up the contact information for your two Senators here:
https://www.senate.gov/senators.
Then, prepare what you will say before you call in. It is best to keep your message short and to
the point. You will likely be talking to an intern or a Constituent staffer. Their job is to take calls
like yours and note what residents say. You will want to make sure it is clear you are a resident
and a constituent of the Senator.
Hello, my name is Bob Smith, and I am a resident of Fort Wayne. I am calling to ask Senator
Donnelly to vote yes on confirming Brett Kavanaugh. I believe he will be a good representative of
our state and will fairly apply the law and be an impartial justice. Thank you for your time.
First, find your Senator on Twitter. The easiest way is to search for their name in Twitter. They
should have a blue checkmark next to their name. Some Senators have two accounts, a
personal/campaign one as well as an official office account. You can tag both.
Then, write your tweet. Since you only have 280 characters to work with, you have to keep it to
bite-sized points. Some example tweets would be:
--.@SenatorCollins Judge Brett Kavanaugh will be a fair justice who will listen to both sides. He
deserves to be confirmed. #AnotherGreatJustice #SCOTUS #Justice4Life
--.@Senator_JoeManchin WV deserves a good, fair justice like Judge Brett Kavanaugh. He will be
a fair justice. Please vote to confirm. #anothergreatjustice #scotus #Justice4Life
You can then post these pictures on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram with the same hashtags,
and we’ll share the best posts!
Letter to the Editor
One way to spread awareness to your community is by sending in a Letter to the Editor to local
newspapers. Politicians do not want to see bad coverage in their local papers, as they know that people
who read local papers are often politically engaged and will likely be casting their vote in the next
election.
A good Letter to the Editor is about 150-350 words, but make sure to check with each paper for their
specifications, which are usually printed online. Since the main focus of your letter will be encouraging
support for the Supreme Court nominee, you will want to make this clear from the beginning.
Sample Letter
Dear Editor:
The U.S. Senate has an opportunity to confirm a solid Supreme Court justice. Senator [insert name] should
vote to support Judge Kavanaugh. A country like ours that values freedom and democracy would benefit
