Lesson Idea Name: The Moon’s Phases

Content Area: Science
Grade Level(s): 2nd grade
Content Standard Addressed: S2E2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to develop an
understanding of the patterns of the sun and the moon and the sun’s effect on Earth.
d. Use data from personal observations to describe, illustrate, and predict how the appearance of
the moon changes over time in a pattern.
Technology Standard Addressed:
ISTE level 4 Innovative Designer: Students use a variety of technologies within a design process to identify and
solve problems by creating new, useful or imaginative solutions.
Selected Technology Tool:
☒ Movie (list application): iMovie

Levels of Technology Integration (LoTi Level):

☐ Level 1: Awareness ☐ Level 2: Exploration ☐ Level 3: Infusion ☒ Level 4: Integration
☐ Level 5: Expansion ☐ Level 6: Refinement

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Students would be supplied with headphones f needed and a transcript, they also may watch the video as
many times as needed.

Lesson idea implementation:

I will introduce the topic of the moons phases and watch the video. I will then answer student’s questions.
Students will get iPad’s and draw out the phases of the moon and make their own videos in groups. I will then
grade the videos.
Students will be assessed on how accurate their video is to the real moon phases. They will work in groups to
complete this task. I will conclude the lesson by review the moons phases and giving a short quiz.
Importance of technology:
Multimedia authoring tool is critical to this project because I made my own video and then students will make
their own video using iMovie. This project couldn’t be completed without the tech. because the task is to
watch and then make a movie.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
No last names or any other identifying information will be posted. Parents would be made aware of all the
internet safety and student privacy rules and the precautions I will be taking. I would have parents sign forms
whenever their students picture or work would be posted. I would follow basic guidelines and air on the side
of caution when unsure if what I am posting is safe for my students and myself.
