[EXPORTING DATA FROM HFM USING FDMEE

In the below hands on case study, we have shown how to export data from HFM to flat file. FDMEE
uses custom application concept when data source is EPM and target is flat file. One can select
subset of the application while exporting into flat file. Below steps with detailed snap shorts makes
your learning easy.
Source as HFM and Custom Application as Target
In the below hands-on document, we show how to export data from Oracle EPM HFM
to flat file. In order to export data into flat file, we need to use custom application.
Consider below points while planning to export data into flat file from Hyperion Planning
or HFM.

Custom Application in FDMEE

● We can use Custom Application as Target Application.
● Custom Application provide feature to load data into a flat file where source could be any
EPM source system.
● Custom Application requires required dimensions to be specified. The same can be added
under application settings.
● Once the flat file is generated, it is available in outbox FDMEE folder.

Creating Custom Application

Setup > Target Application > Add
Once you click on add, select Type as > custom Application

Scroll down, provide details as needed.

In Application Options, select ‘Yes’ in Enable export to file.

Select required dimensions for target application.

Data Export into Flat File where source as HFM.

● Source system: Oracle EPM HFM
● Target Application: Custom Application (HfmExp)

HFM as Source (Sample Data in DataGrid)

Our Process: we are extracting data from HFM and import data into custom application which
in turn generate a flat file.
HFM works as source and Custom application works as Target application.

1. Login into workspace and open FDMEE Environment.
Navigate >Administer > Data Management

2. Go to setup Tab Register Target Application.

Setup > Register > Target Application
Click on add New Target Application, a window will appear, from dropdown select Type of
Target application, then Name of application will appear select one of them click on ok.
Here you can see all the details come automatically related to dimension mapping, it refers to
staging table.

First Register HFM application (FMAPP1)

Register Custom Application as Target Application.
Setup > Target Application > Add
Once you click on add just select Type as > Custom Application

Scroll down, provide details as needed.

Import Formats:
Import format assigned into Location. Import format is used to define file structure. We need to
create import format before creating Location. Add it by click on Green add button, you will
have option below to add new import format.

Go to Setup > Integration Setup selects Import Format

Location:
Setup > Integration Setup > Location

Period Mapping: Define period Mapping.

Setup > Integration Setup > Period Mapping

Category Mapping: If category exists under category list which you want to load into target
dimension than select it or otherwise create it.
Setup > Integration Setup > Category Mapping

Before setting Data Load Mapping first select POV.

Data Load Mapping: We use Data Load Mapping for map source dimension member to their
target Application Dimension member. We need to map Account,Entity,Product etc.

Setup > Data Load >Data Load Mapping

Dimension > Account

Dimension > Entity

Dimension > Products

Dimension > Customers

Dimension > ICP

Data Load Rule: create data Load rule for location.

Click on Green plus icon
Then in Details section give Name for Data Load Rule, it automatically takes all other details
like Category, Period mapping from selected POV

Then scroll down, specify source Filters.

By using source Filters we provide intersection on which we want to extract data into flat file. So
that here specify source filters.

Click on this icon this window will appear.

select your dimensions from member list. Add member which you want to export inside Selected

members by click on this icon.. Click on ok.
