I am writing to request your consideration for the position of Communications Specialists to members of the
Majority Conference.
Formerly, I worked as a consumer frauds representative for the Office of the New York State Attorney General,
Buffalo Regional Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection. I was responsible for co-managing the day-to-day
operation and decisions of the Consumer Frauds Bureau while also supervising the student intern staff. On a
daily basis I mediated consumer complaints, investigated patterns of fraud and illegality, gave community
speeches/presentations, handled Freedom of Information Law requests and perform various administrative tasks.
Additionally, I acted as interim bureau supervisor for six months while my immediate supervisor was absent on
medical leave. In this role, I also worked closely with Assistant Attorneys General in the preparation of
affirmative action litigation.
In my high school career, I contributed to, edited, and designed the school newsletter that circulated weekly.
From there I attended the State University of New York at Buffalo where I was elected as the secretary for the
University at Buffalo College Democrats. Meeting minutes and newsletters that disseminated to nearly two
thousand students over our e-list were drafted weekly by me, as were fliers, promotional material, and yearly
budget proposals.
I continued on my leadership path while obtaining a Bachelors of Arts, double major, by serving as President of
the University at Buffalo College Democrats. In this position I acquired experience working with various
political campaigns, politicians, student groups, community groups and the student government. Additionally, I
lobbied for, and oversaw, a 110 percent increase in yearly budget allocations, while bolstering membership by
100 percent. My efforts were recognized by the College Democrats of New York when I proposed a bid for, and
was accepted to host, the statewide convention where, then candidate for Governor, Eliot Spitzer was the
keynote speaker. Dually, I held a post as Upstate Membership Director of the College Democrats of New York
State. I was tasked with coordinating efforts between local Democratic groups, campaigns, communities and
local chapters of the College Democrats of New York. It is through these posts and experiences that I have
developed strong management, communication, coordination, and fact checking proficiency that will make me
an asset to the office.
Over the last year, I became active in local politics by developing an LGBT community blog. My work has been
featured on the local news, in national magazines and on national blogs. From there, I joined the Sean Cooney
for State Senate team and acted as a campaign coordinator, which included drafting the campaign’s newsletter,
mailers, press advisories, press releases and social media (facebook, twitter, website). After the culmination of
that campaign, I began work on LaTessa for Assembly in New York’s 119th district. There I have been tasked
with the same responsibilities I undertook with Cooney for Senate. As you are likely aware, the nature of a
campaign makes one quickly develop strong abilities to concisely target messages. Additionally, I researched
legislative proposals and drafted memos used to brief the candidate on possible policy stances.
As an individual that has shown a dedication to community and has acquired the skills necessary to effectively
and efficiently communicate, I am well suited to meet the needs of the Majority Council. My experience, couple
with my demonstrated personal passion, will guarantee that the Council’s goals are achieved. I look forward to
the opportunity to further discuss my qualifications.
Sincerely,
Corey Mohr
