order thinking skills (HOTs) through Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025. This transformation occurs
due to the implementation of the previous curriculum which lack in emphasizing on the HOTs elements.
Curriculum Development Division (CDC) has stated the three key elements in implementing HOTs;
curriculum, pedagogy and assessment. Therefore, this study has focused on the pedagogical elements of
teaching model in order to enhance students’ HOTs in three main components of KBSM Mathematics
which are Number, Shape and Space, and Relation. Multiple case study designed with qualitative approach
was used in this study. To achieve the goal, five KBAT trainers and excellent high school teachers in Johor
were purposively selected as participants for interview and observation. Document analyses on daily lesson
plans has been conducted to strengthen the findings. Based on the analysis, it was found that there are six
methods of HOTs teaching (fun learning method, thinking blocks, real life situation, concrete model,
cooperative and questioning) for Number components. For Shape and Space components, five HOTs
teaching methods that have been applied by teachers; technology based, outdoor classroom activities,
problem based learning, cooperative and concrete models. Three methods identified in teacher’s teaching in
Relation components which are problem based learning, algebric thinking and questioning. Therefore, the
implementation of HOTs in Mathematics teaching enable to develop human capital who think critically,
creatively and innovatively to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
