STUDY OF ROCK STRENGTH TO DIVIDE LIMESTONE

QUALITY ZONE IN MANGILU AREA, BUNGORO DISTRICT,

PANGKEP REGENCY, SOUTH SULAWESI PROVINCE

ABSTRACT

Rock strength analysis is an important analysis in the engineering geology study.

This analysis is done to know the rock quality stability natural strength or when
the load is given. Administratively, research area is located in the Mangilu
Village, Bungoro District, Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi. This location
dominated by Tonasa Formation. The lithology in the research area based on
petrography is a limestone (Grainstone, Wenworth 1975).This study is aim to find
out the limestone strength to create a rock quality map zone based on the uniaxial
compressive strength. Rock Quality zone divided using kriging interpolation
method. The study result of 27 sample shows the strength compression value
about 3,54-5,41 MPa or equals 61,95Kg/ cm2 – 94,675 Kg/ cm2. The data later
being analyzed taken from 21 strength compressive station interpolation in the
research area, and data will be compared with 6 station for validation. The
research area divided into three zone; Grey Zone (4,61 MPa-5,30MPa), Brown
Zone (4,07 MPa-4,61 MPa), and Cream Zone (3,60 MPa – 4,07 MPa).Of
interpolation validation result obtained (RMSE) root mean square error that is SE
= 0.170098.
