The Cross River Gorilla is a subspecies of the western gorilla that is usually
found in montane rainforest between 1,500 and 3,500 meters and in bamboo
forest from about 2,500 to 3,000 meters. It differs from the other subspecies of
gorilla in skull and tooth dimensions. They live on a small area of high-land
forest on the border of Cameroon and Nigeria. They have been classified as a
critically endangered species. (World Wildlife Fund for Nature, s.f.)

Now, for completing the evidence you need to carry out a little research on the
web to find out the major threats for the Cross River Gorilla. With the
information obtained, write a short paragraph describing why this species is
facing extinction and the consequences of its hypothetical extinction. Make sure
you use conditionals in your text.
The five reasons why the western gorilla of the Cross River is critically endangered are:
1. deforestation and forest fragmentation In Cameroon, forest areas are being lost due to commercial
logging, the development of monoculture plantations such as oil palm, shifting cultivation, firewood
collection and forest fires. In 2000, 76% of the country's forests had been registered or assigned to
logging concessions, and this number has continued to increase. Logging is a direct cause of the
fragmentation of forest habitat, which in turn blocks the access of animals to food sources and prevents
natural transfer between groups, causing stress and disruption of social interactions. a common fact. this
makes the blue river grids at risk of being hunted
2. LWC reports that in Cameroon, illegal trade in animals is widespread, and includes the trade in
bushmeat, the sale of animal parts for black magic and the pet trade. Historically, non-domestic animals
have been an important resource, especially in the small communities that depend on forest animals for
protein, however, the pressures of commercial factors have created a demand in progressively
unsustainable quantities. this makes cross river gorillas deprived of freedom
3. they currently inhabit 9 zones of which 5 are more or less protected, covering a total of 12,000 square
kilometers.
4. Its habitat is rapidly disappearing due to the advance of agricultural land and human settlements.
5. Humans, domestic animals and gorillas, live practically together, increasing the risk of transmission of
pathogens and parasites that can be deadly for existing gorilla populations.
And the consequences of its extinction would be, the human being would
be qualified as the most insensitive and mediocre animal, who puts their
interests without respect for life, would end with one of the main cults that
Now, to complete the evidence you need to record a tape in which you describe
the actions you would execute to prevent the Cross River Gorilla’s extinction.
Use your imagination to picture several scenarios in which you could help.
