Licensing Academy: Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer™

PIPRA, in collaboration with the UC Davis School of Law, will host the eighth edition of its 10-
day Licensing Academy course on intellectual property (IP) management and technology
licensing in Davis, California from June 18 to June 29, 2018. The Academy will cover topics such
as U.S. and international frameworks for IP protection, IP management for technology
commercialization, licensing, IP issues in negotiating international agreements, creating offices
for IP management and technology transfer, and launching startup companies based on
research generated at public sector institutions. The program will be based on lectures from a
faculty comprised of university professors and active professionals working in the Silicon Valley
and Sacramento areas, including technology transfer managers and lawyers. Additional
program components include group exercises, practical case studies, and field trips.

Tuition*: $3,230
PIPRA has a limited number of scholarships available for qualified participants. These
scholarships provide the amount of $1,500 towards tuition. However, the PIPRA scholarships do
not cover the remainder of tuition costs ($1,730), nor costs related to lodging, meals, or
transportation. If you are interested in the course and would like to apply for a scholarship,
please send the following items to licensingacademy13@gmail.com: (1) cover letter; (2) C.V.;
and (3) 2 letters of support (these letters should explicitly discuss your level of proficiency in
English if you are coming from a non- English speaking country). The cover letter should include
(1) your background and experience related to technology management; (2) a description of
how the course will benefit your career; and (3) how you will pay for the remainder of tuition
costs ($1,730), the expense of traveling to California and other costs incurred while in Davis
that will not be covered by the scholarship.
Scholarship Selection Criteria:
- Applicant is currently working in innovation technology transfer
- Applicant’s attendance in the course will benefit his/her country
- Priority will be given to applicants from developing countries, however all candidates are
welcome to apply.

The submission deadline for scholarship applications is 17:00 PST on April 27, 2018.
Only one scholarship per institution will be awarded.
