TECH
SQUAD
PROJECT CHARTER E-COPTER
Description:
Our project is based on the idea of modifying the power supply of a built RC helicopter using other
sources of energy as the new power supplement. The RC helicopter is planned to be of medium size for
the installation of two types of devices. The first installation will be of Grätzel solar cells, low cost
materials cells, on available parts of the helicopter’s body to receive a potential amount of solar energy.
The second installation will be small turbines on the sides of the helicopter to charge the batteries of the
mechanism with mechanical rotation due to wind power. During the assembly of the RC helicopter kit,
we will make the adjustments to discard the original power supply and apply our ideas of alternate
sources of energy to the helicopter.

Objectives:
– To build an eco-friendly RC helicopter using solar energy and wind power.

– Design and construct a turbine for the body of the helicopter for use of wind power.

– Build the helicopter’s body made of solar panels for solar energy storage.

– Transfer solar energy and wind power to a battery, so it could be use to power up the helicopter.

Outcomes and deliverables:

– The main outcome for this project will be to power up the helicopter and make it start.

– To charge the battery successfully with the use of small solar panels to use it.

Duration:
The duration of this project would be around 60 days based on the materials
order and the turbine design and testing. Our team is going to be done with testing
a week after that to check that everything is working and it doesn’t need to be fixed
one of the parts. A week after this, we will work on the final presentation and a
discussion about the strategies used during the different stages to see what we
accomplished on time or a task that we didn’t finish according to planning.

Team membership, roles and positions:

– Dunie Navarro – Group Leader: Monitors the progress of the milestones according to plan.

– Geoffrey Laleau – Financial officer: Manages team expenses according to the budget.
– Steve Cortina – Spokesperson: Keeps NASA informed about the project progress and plan.

– Joseph Paul – Recorder: Records time of meeting days and keeps teams informed.
