Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This lesson is available in 2 formats which makes it easy for students to watch the lesson at home or in the
class. Students who may need to listen to the video a few times have the option to play the video as many
times as they need. This is an ideal option of EL students who may need to do this. This E-book is also a great
example of how students can create their own content using a basic productivity tool.

Lesson idea implementation:

To start this lesson, I will demonstrate using 2 cups of water. One cup with clean water and one cup with dirty
water. I will continue to add contaminants to the dirty water while giving examples of how things might
contaminate our water (ex: oil spills, toxic waste, garbage, etc.). After this, I would ask the students which
water would they rather drink from and why. After this I will explain that pollution contaminates the water
we drink like in Flint, Michigan and effects the climate as well as many other factors. As the PowerPoint is
presented, students will be prompted to answer questions related to the content in the PowerPoint and
describe pollutants based on an image in the presentation. After the presentation, we will find an example of
the negative effects of pollution in our area and create a class presentation for what the problem is exactly
and how we can help fix it and then carrying out our mission. This project will require about a month of
planning an execution.

Reflective Practice: After carrying out this lesson, I believe that students will understand the real-life impact
of pollution and how they can help by making an effort in their community. I also think that this lesson could
be even more impactful if students could collaborate with other students around the school and maybe
extend the opportunity to help pollution in the area to their community. This would extend the LoTi level by
involving collaboration with other students.
