Supersonics book in C – Sherry has extra

8:00 – Kya Strohbusch – We started the C position on p. 32, she did very well, started “What Can I
Share”

8:15 Class – Advanced

Review I, IV, V chords in C, 1st inversion, begin revoicing

Review C major and minor scale fingerings
Start I, IV, V chords in D major
We used the clipboards with staves on them (fava beans in yogurt container, used as notes) to build root
position chords. We talked about degrees of the scale. They could take the beans and revoice to make
inversions, but I'm not sure they know all the note names on the staff yet, but this would be a good
activity.

They have solos for the recital Allison Lee – Snowflakes – she is playing very hard, should be lighter
Abigail O – she is doing 3 songs, and the rhythms are not even yet, especially in the song “after Going
Under Cover” which I wrote. I will attach it. I don't know how to teach the RH rhythm pattern. IF
you can teach it, that would be really great.
Yessica, doing Snowflakes. Raelynn is doing 2 songs from the Supersonics book in Cm.

For the Recital they can play page 1, 2 or 3 in their books, or Listen For Bells, or Hot Cross Buns
in D.

They are working in the D position, D being an easier note to find than C. I have found this is a better
note to start kids on than C. They can play Hot Cross Buns by ear in D, and Listen to Bells in D.
(attach) We use movable Do, so D is Do. This week we were going to try Mary Had a Little Lamb by
ear, and maybe Jingle Bells.

I sent them a You Tube of Ode to Joy (in D) for listening lesson.

They have clipboards with staves and fava beans for notes, and we reviewed D and E on the staff. We
call them Do and Re, and also we use D and E. They are learning that notes don't necessarily have the
same name.
Supersonics Book in D – we have done the first 2 songs. Song #2 has half notes. They had partners
and clapped the rhythm. When the half notes came along, they clapped the hands of their parents or
their partners to differentiate the long notes from the short notes. That seemed to work. I would say try
the next song.

9:40 class – Beginners (started January 20)

They have the Alfred book, which I don't like for group. I just sent them the Supersonics in C for
them to try the first 2 songs. All of Supersonics in C is based in the new C position which they
just learned.
The main thing we did last week was oriented ourselves to the new C position on page 32. We
practiced going away from the instrument, coming back and finding the C position. We went over
“Sailing” rhythm using ba ba ba and clapping. We then sang the words. This is their Alfred homework:
page 36
page 37
page 38 (find the F, between the dots of the F (bass) clef
Look at page 39 and see if you can find the F. Read the "rule" about stem direction in the
coral colored box on page 39. You can try to play the song on page 39. They are wanting to
get you oriented to the note "F" because it is easy to find if you look for the line between the
dots of the bass clef. F can also be "Fa" if you are singing solfege (do, re, mi, fa, so).

Gian Carlos – older beginner
Andrea – older beginner, sister to Gian Carlos
Jacob
Gabrielle Garcia – I really like Gabriella. She is very dedicated and tries to do a very good job. She
will look to you for direction, and watches your hands. If you say the finger numbers in Spanish that
helps her a lot.

10:15 – intermediate
Rachel Butter – Indian Dance
Teyla McNair – I believe Indian Dance
Timi Osemwegie – Going Under Cover
Gabriela Rios – Wild Horses

We did the same thing that the 8:15 class did in terms of learning I IV and V chords. You could do
dictation with this class using the staves and the fava beans. 5 note scale using solfege. We have only
touched on La.

11:05 – beginner – same as 9:40 class

Alexa (Cammy)
Javier – he has an excellent voice and is quite good

Bronx
Cartie
Anabella
TJ – (Tajier)
Eva Winters

11:40 same as 10:15 class in terms of lesson plan – they should all have their own music
Melania – Indian Dance and she may pick another one
Ah-MAH-ree Amarie – Hair Style Hero
Rodrigo – Sad Song – (Something - he will remember it)
Jose Roa – With Heart Found on Sound Cloud and posted on my FB piano page
https://www.facebook.com/harpmary/posts/1670772292999186

Adrian and Angelo Garcia – joined this class after taking a break. Adrian is too advanced, Angelo is
not advanced enough. Father does not participate and only complains. Not sure what to do with these
boys as they never got the book that we were all working out of, and the dad expects me to work with
them special between now and the program. I think Angelo is going to play a solo from an Alfred
book, and Adrian is going to play Fortress or March Song. I sent it to him, they are responsible for
printing and bringing it to class.
