Art of Transformation 2017

Over the past year the clients and

the art therapist at Mariners have
worked together to create art re-
lating to mindfulness, self esteem,
support systems, self identify, and
destresssing. Through forms of art
therapy, open studio, and didactics
This selection of pieces are only a
glimpse of the type of work the
clients do throughout the year. In
addition to the works done within
mariners we have strectched our
connections to collaborate with
the detroit institute of arts and the
ymca to expose the men to various
forms of art.
In partnership with the Detroit institute of arts Several clients have had
the opportunity to create masks and wooden sculptures. The woodent
sculptures will also been on display at the DIA this upcoming December.
All the masks were inspired by
thoughts of self-identity.
These wooden sculptures were
created while processing the
thought of clients spirit animal.
Clients chose an animal based
off of qualities they believe they
shared with that creature.
 Art to cope is a small art therapy group where clients and art thera-
pist use art to discuss and process thoughts as well as emotions pertain-
ing to themes such as self esteem, self motivation, coping skills, trauma,
and triggers.

 In Relaxation Hour we use art to practice minfulness, destressing,
and letting go. We use materials such as charcoal, paints, watercolors,
and clay. We also focus on activities that may require your full attention
such as carving and paper quilling.
