Quarter 1- Executive briefing

Team work is very crucial when you play this game. This will help you improve your
performance. Decide who would be the president and what would the role of each team member.

One of the goals of the simulation exercise is to develop the management skills of all the
students. For this reason everyone will also take on the responsibility of managing the team and
serve for a period of time as the president of the company. The president’s job is to manage the
schedules and meetings, oversee the assignment of tasks, monitor overall performance (balanced
scorecard) and help the team in every way possible to achieve a strong business performance.

The first person to be president will organize the formation phase of the business (Quarter 1),
including the selection of team members (already done) and the deliberations regarding team
norms, decision-making process and roles. The second person will organize the startup phase
(Quarters 2 to 4) including the preparation of the initial strategy and its implementation during
two quarters of test marketing. The third person will oversee the preparation of the business plan
and its presentation to the outside investors (Quarter 5). The fourth person will manage the
implementation of the business plan (Quarters 6 to 8). And, the fifth person will organize the
final presentation to the Board of Directors. If there are only 4 people on the team, then the last
two activities can be merged into one.

Remember team work is very important when you play this game.

Company name

The task in the first quarter is to decide your company’s name. Probably the least important
decision is the team name. The team might spend an inordinate amount of time on it. And, from
a team-building point of view, it has value. It affects how the team feels about itself. In terms of
the market algorithm, any name will do. There are no points given for cleverness of the name.
