The proposed project is located in the province 3 in Bukhel village of Lalitpur district.

2.6 Problem and background of the target community/group (Max. 200-words)


*Give description of the water-related problems of the target community/group which you are trying to
resolve with the grants from the Japan Water Forum Fund.
The target school is facing drinking water supply problem. Although the school has tap water installed, it
has neither been maintained nor been monitored. Drinking water is only available for certain hours per day
and for further use, water needs to be stored. For storage, tank is installed along with tap. However, the
tank is not functioning properly. Hence, the school extracts water from nearby spring, filters it and supplies it
to the students. According to survey, spring water being used for drinking purpose is found to be polluted
Neither the source nor the filtered water has not been tested hence, only filtering the water may not be
sufficient for drinking purpose. In addition, the school has not conducted any awareness program regarding
water related diseases, its conservation and storage.

2.8 Prospected outputs and outcomes of the project (Max. 100-words)


*Give a brief description of the outputs (What will be done by your project) as well as the prospective
positive outcomes (What the outputs will bring to the project area) of the project including the aspect of
social and economic benefits to beneficiaries.
Maintenance of current water source: The project expects to repair taps water along with the tanks
available within the project area.
Sustainability of safe drinking water: The project will ensure safe drinking water in school through
continuous checking of current water sources. Water quality parameter will be measured and compared with
standards. The project will also ensure most feasible water treatment system available for safe drinking water.
Awareness related to safe drinking water
The project will conduct awareness program related to safe water. Awareness program will focus on
preventing water borne disease, children appropriate hygiene practices, different water preservation option,
water filtration techniques and different ways to maintain water for further use. Awareness program will be
conducted in sustainable way, taking account of local resources available, involving students and teachers.
They are practiced in such a way that they can implement these at their homes.
The expected positive outcomes of the project are:-
 Improve the health and performance of students by reducing the frequency of water borne
diseases
 Fulfilment in the drinking water demand of the school
 Improvement in the school water quality
 Awareness in the students regarding safe drinking water, its storage and maintenance.

2.10 Beneficiaries contributions (Max. 100-words)


*The contribution and expected activity by the beneficiaries to promote their participation and ownership
should be clearly described. E.g. materials, financial support, physical works etc
Major beneficiary for this project are the students. They are expected to play an active role in maintain
clean water supply within school periphery. They can also influence in safe drinking water practices in their
homes, within family members and in the wider community.
