LEARNING DERIVED

Joy Llanel Domingo OB-Pedia

In this exposure, I learned that as a student nurse, we should know all our responsibilities
when it comes to duty especially time management. It also improves my communicating skills.
Especially communicating with children in pedia ward and also, in this exposure, it improves my
knowledge and skills such as administering medications through IVP, Tepid Sponge Bath,
monitoring the needs of the patient, also taking vital signs, and I also learned that we should
remember the 5 rights in giving medicatiob and calculating dosage in an easier way.

Joy Llanel Domingo Community Nursing

Community, in this exposure, I learned how to communicate with different persons in the
community. I learned how to deal with them. Also, in this exposure it improves my skills in
getting the fundic height, doing Leopold’s Maneuver and cord dressing. As a student nurse, we
should be flexible in all the exposures we are assigned because in the community, lots of efforts
are needed. Especially n community nursing we are doing our home visit, walking in the tntire
community.

Joy Llanel Domingo School Nursing

School Nursing is the happiest exposure for me. In this exposure,I learned how to interact
with different age group. Improve my teaching skills, because in this exposure as a astudent
nurse, we are responsible in teaching students especially, preschoolers, schoolage and
adolescents in proper hand washing, proper grooming and all about health.

In this exposure, I learned that it is important to maintain sterility before, during and after
the operations. And should not forget the responsibilities of the circulating and scrub nurse. And
I’ve learned the principles of aseptic techniques, because infections can affect the life of the
patients during operation. So as nurses its our conscience.

Anna Loraine Pimentel OB - Pedia

This was our first exposure as we reached this level. We had a very good time with mam
Glenn. Here, we start to build our confidence in building rapport to our clients / patients, giving
medications orally, thru injection IM or SQ and IVP.

We also performed Tepid Sponge Bath, removing IVF and as our responsibilities, we had
to take care of our clients as we taking care of ourselves, charting is on of the main duties we had
to do everyday.

Anna Loraine Pimentel Community Nursing

Community, being a student, I had learned different things. We had to adjust in many
ways because community settings are very different from hospital settings. We learned to stoop
to their level so that we will get their trust and build rapport.

In the community, we performed in actual the Leopold’s Maneuver, newborn care and
cord care. Sometimes, we have to sacrifice our free time – break time, for the family we are
assigned. We had hard time but definitely we enjoyed.

School Nursing was the most enjoyed exposure. We are enjoyed every little time with
ma’am Brenda at the same time, we are learning many things.

We learned different attitudes and characters of different age groups, from pre-schoolers

to school-age. We hope that we can apply all the learnings we had and we also hope that ma’am
Brenda also enjoyed the time we are together.

This was the exposure that I was afraid of, but as we start to take our responsibilities, as a
scrub nurse and circulating nurse, we enjoyed I and learned to build confidence to ourselves.

And when it comes to OR, there is some things that comes to my mind – “Sterile to
Sterile, and “Sterile to Non-Sterile”. Principle, simple but meaningful.

Maria Carlota Inalves OB - Pedia

As a nursing student, the first thing I learned in this exposure, is to come on time, always,
because the patients are always there. In need of professional assistance and comfort. I may not
be a professional, yet but comfort, a helping hand, and ears are ready to listen, that I have. I have
given that all I can. My time and effort. Time and efforts that were not wasted. During this
exposure, I met all kinds of persons may they on high, middle or low class. I learned to have
skills, in communication. Through talking to my patients of different classes. I also had the
opportunity to use the skills I learned in school. To put them into an actual experience. I also had
a chance to make friends, not only to my group mates, but also to the staff we met at CLDH. I
learned from them, too. Especially how to calculate drug dosages in a relatively quick manner.

Community nursing was a big surprise. Instead of staying in the RHU, as scheduled, we
we’re sent out to different student. We joined the staffs of RHU10 the UMDC. Here, we got to
have our skills in rendering physical examination. Different students, different schools. Although
we didn’t get experience duty in the RHU, this exposure is as fulfilling as can be.

Through this exposure, we realized and experienced what hard work really means. For
only in this exposure, did we get mix cement and sand. We actually accomplished a plat box. It
wasn’t easy but, we did it.

School Nursing is not really that different from the community nursing. We still have
kids to take care of. To teach about health. Only in school nursing, we didn’t just step with the
physical examinations and then health teachings. Herem if you teach them how to properly wash
their hands, you must also show them how to do it. If you teach them how to brush their teeth
properly, you must also show them how to do it. And so on and so forth. Everything is done
many times over. Because they are kids and they need a supervision and proding.
