Course Design/Pedagogical Approach

Blended learning approach
 Students will view dissection videos (http://videos.med.wisc.edu/events/65 )
 Students will have the opportunity to either have lectures or laboratory notes or self-directed study before their practical or theory
class. (https://tophat.com/ (optional)
 Students will be shown an episode of Grey’s anatomy.
 Interactive lecture followed by demonstration/small groups on cadaveric dissection/ models etc.
Problem-based learning or team-based learning for selected and clinical oriented topics
Resource tool will be KENHUB for students elaborate learning; https://www.kenhub.com/en/atlasT

Learning objectives

Neuroanatomy
1. Understand the occurrence, basic structure, and function of the human nervous system.
Understand the nervous system process from the fertilized egg, embryo growth, to differentiation and
development; and recognize the basic unit of the nervous system’s neurons, structure, function, and mutual
structural relationship of the system to support and nourish tissue glial cells and blood.
2. Recognize the local anatomy structure and function of the brain and spinal cord.
Students will understand the localized common and special structures, mutual anatomical relations, and common
and specific functions of individual structures of the brain, such as cerebellum, diencephalon, midbrain, pons,
medulla, and spinal cord in the central nervous system.
3. Study the functional integration of the human primary sensory and motor systems.
Learn the major general sensing and special somatosensory system neurotransmitter pathways of the human
body, including acceptors (receptors), nerve tissues of all levels, and the ultimate feeling tissue interpreting
function; and discuss how the major motor nerve system after accepting the different feelings takes the
appropriate action to adapt to changes in the external and internal environment.
4. Experience the neuroanatomy functional systems and clinical application

Head and Neck

1. Describe the boundaries and contents of the anterior and posterior triangles of the neck
2. Identify the parts of the upper respiratory tract
3. Describe the gross structure and functions of the nose
4. Identify the boundaries of the nasal cavity
5. Describe the structure, function and location of the nasal conchae and respiratory mucosa and the paranasal
sinuses
6. Describe the structure, function and location pharynx and its parts
7. Describe the structure, function and location of the 4 groups of tonsils
8. Describe the structure, function and location of the thyroid gland, the hyoid bone, the larynx (identifying its 9
cartilages) and the vocal cords
9. Describe the structure, function and boundaries of the oral cavity
10. Compare and contrast swallowing and peristalsis
11. Compare and contrast the location, structure and function of the 3 pairs of external salivary glands to the
internal salivary glands
12. Describe the deciduous and permanent dental formulas
13. Describe the structure of teeth as it relates to their function
14. Explain how teeth are secured into the maxilla and mandible

Musculoskeletal System
The musculoskeletal-system-related regular course and laboratory programs of anatomy, embryology, tissue,
physiology, pathology, and pharmacology are combined into a complete basic medicine musculoskeletal system
course, so students can have a systematic and organized learning of the complete musculoskeletal system concept.

Respiratory System
The respiratory-system-related regular course and laboratory programs of embryology, tissue, anatomy,
physiology, pathology, and pharmacology are combined into a complete basic medicine respiratory system course,
so students can have a systematic and organized learning of complete basic medical knowledge of the respiratory
system, to establish a cornerstone to link the clinical respiratory system courses.

Cardiovascular System
The cardiovascular-system-related regular course and laboratory programs of embryology, tissue, anatomy,
physiology, pathology, and pharmacology are combined into a complete basic medicine cardiovascular system

of the gastrointestinal system, and the relevant basic pharmacology.

Renal and Urinary System

The renal and urinary system related regular courses and laboratory programs of embryology, tissue, anatomy,

Hematopoietic and Lymphatic System

With courses on the histology and pathology of the hematopoietic and lymphatic systems as the learning basis,
students can have a systematic and organized learning about the knowledge and concept in this aspect.

Endocrine and Metabolism

The endocrine and metabolism-related regular courses and laboratory programs of anatomy, tissue, physiology,
