 Cultural Heritage Cum Interpretation Centre, Varanasi

Aim
To develop a design solution of the project of cultural heritage cum interpretation centre,Varanasi. it’s
a hypothetical project proposed by me near sarnath , Varanasi.

Introduction

A cultural center or cultural centre is an organization, building or complex that promotes culture and
arts. Cultural centers can be neighborhood community arts organizations, private facilities, government -
sponsored.

An interpretation centre, or interpretive centre, is an institution for dissemination of knowledge of

natural or cultural heritage; these are located in connection to cultural, historic or natural sites.

Need of Project
 City of varanasi attracts thousands of tourists every year from all over the world because of the
Heritage Status granted to it by UNESCO.So there is an requirement of cultural centre in the city
which could depict the mythology & the rich cultural heritage of the city for which it is famous
for.

 Tourist or even the local people who visit Varanasi , do not get a centre where they could get
the information about the culture ,its heritage and mythology etc.

 More & more people would get aware about its richness in culture , its history as how did city
emerged etc.

Scope and objective of project

 To develop a effective spaces in the centre, so that people can easily relate themselves to the
city & its culture

 To develop the facilities & the amenities at the centre , so that the people can be served in
most functional & asthetical way & also to create a perfect mood for the visitors ,which could
help them in relating their soul with the city.

 To generate more & more revenue from the tourists visiting Varanasi

 Site
My site is located just nearby to sarnath ,Varanasi , which is quite historical & sacred place
considered in the city , as it could be the best one to suit the place for cultural or interpretation
centre.
Site is having road on its front longer side & is surrounded by sarnath historical site as well as
easily accessed to sarnath railway station.(which runs very nearby to it).
Site area=5 acres

 Gathering areas
 Recreational spaces
 Offices
 Conference rooms
 Auditoriums
 O.A.T

Methodology
 Live & virtual case studies
 Site visits & collecting information about local conditions
and environment of the city, & then finally reaching to site synthesis.
 Data collection & research work related to the project
 Analysis and conclusion based on the observations made during the above mentioned research,
and thus evolving the concept, and further enhancing the design.
