The effect of Massage Effleurage technique on pain labor at 1st


time active phase on Mrs. Primipara at PBM Siti Jamila S.ST
Palas Lampung Selatan in 2018

The perceptions : of pain during labor often frighten the delivering mother. Pain
complaints of mother who will deliver the baby that are not resolved quickly can
cause deaths of mother and baby. Unbearable labor may push mother to use
painkillers such as analgesics and sedatives while they provide side effects to the
mother and baby. There are non-pharmacological and pharmacological methods
that can be used to help mother handle the pain of labor. Therefore many ways
that can be used to relieve labor pain, one of them such as non pharmacological
action that is Massage Effleurage Technique.
Objective : To know the effect of massage effleurage technique toward labor pain
level at 1st time active phase on Mrs. Primipara
Metodelogy : This research is quasi experiment with one group pretest posttest
research design. Sample technique used is purposive sampling that has inclusion
criteria. There are 30 respondents. massage effleurage technique was done by
rubbing the abdomen slowly along with respiration during contraction, which is
used to divert the mother so the mother does not concentrate on the contraction.
Result of the Research: Showing that before massage eflleurage technique was
done 30 respondents has an averages of severe pain level 7,00 and then after
massage eflleurage technique was done it has an averages of middle pain level
4,00. By using wilcoxon test, it shows that there are differences of pain level
before and after massage eflleurage technique was given with the result p value
0,000 <α (0,05).
Conclusion and Suggestion: There is an effect of massage effleurage technique
to the level of labor pain during the first time active phase in Mrs. Primipara.
Hopefully this research can be useful for health workers, especially midwives in
order to promote the benefits of massage Effleurage to relieve pain of delivering
mother.
