Semester -I

University of Pune

Course Objectives & Outcomes

Course Teaching Scheme: Theory 4 Hrs / Week.

Structure
Examination Scheme 100 Marks.

Goal: This course is very useful to the students to impart knowledge about
different methods of analysis for different structures such as slope deflection
method, moment distribution method, flexibility method, stiffness method,
portal method, cantilever method & also knowledge about plastic analysis,
elastic stability, finite difference method, finite element method.

UNIT NO 1 : Slope Deflection Method

Objective: Students will understand how to do the analysis of continuous beams & rigid jointed
rectangular portal frames using this method.

Outcome : Students will be able to calculate

1 Values of unknowns like slope & deflection.

2 Final end moments for the portal frames.

UNIT NO 2 : Moment Distribution Method

Objective: Students will understand how to do the analysis of continuous beams & rigid jointed
rectangular portal frames ( Non sway & Sway ) using this method.

Outcome : Students will be able to calculate

3 Value of actual sway force, from that deflection of the frame.

4 Non sway moments

5 Final End moments

UNIT NO 3 Three hinged & two hinged arches

Objective: Students will understand how to do the analysis of three hinged & two hinged
arches.

Outcome : Students will be able to do the analysis of

6 Parabolic three hinged arches with support at same level & different level .

7 Semicircular arches

8 Parabolic three hinged arches with support at same level

UNIT NO 4 Flexibility Method of Analysis

Objective : : Students will understand how to do the analysis of beams, pin joined plane trusses
& frames using flexibility method.

Outcome : Students will be able to calculate

9 Unknown values (slope & deflection) by using various boundry conditions.

10 Flexibility matrix coefficient , values for unknown reaction components,

11 Relation between load & deflection & Calculation for moments .

UNIT NO 5 Stiffness Method of Analysis

Objective : Students will understand how to do the analysis of beams ,trusses & frames using
stiffness method of analysis.

Outcome : Students will be able to do the analysis of

12 Stiffness matrix coefficients

13 Relation between load & stiffness

UNIT NO 6 : A) Finite Difference Method

Objective: Students will understand the concept of central difference method

Outcome : Students will be able to do the analysis of

14 Continuous Beams

15 They are able to calculate moments & deflection at any point.

UNIT NO 6 B) Approximate methods of analysis of multi-storied multi-bay 2 - D rigid
jointed fames
Objective: Students will understand the concept of multistoreyed frames
