academic, moral, spiritual, social, physical and creative attributes which will equip our young people to cope with the
demands of life both as children and later in life as adults.

Keldiley International School is fully committed to learning. Rather than just pumping children with information

discovers their own strengths and abilities, whatever their passion or talent.

THE EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM

The curriculum in the Early Years is based on a

medley of the best of Nigerian Curriculum, the
British Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
(EYFS), American curriculum and the Montessori
curriculum which provide a framework for the
education of children from birth to 5 years old.
Within the EYFS Framework, teachers provide
activities and make assessments judgments based
on the seven areas of learning:

Three Prime areas

Ÿ Communication and Language
Ÿ Physical Development
Ÿ Pe r s o n a l , S o c i a l a n d E m o t i o n a l
Development

Four Specific areas

Ÿ Mathematics
Ÿ Literacy
Ÿ Understanding the World
Ÿ Expressive Arts and Design

Whilst all learning areas are important and inter-connected, the three Prime areas are crucial for igniting children's
curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, building their capacity to learn and form relationships and thrive. The Specific
areas will enable children to be self-motivated learners who are confident to succeed.

Under these seven areas of learning sta provide activities that enable each child to achieve the goals and objectives
appropriate to his or her individual stage of development. The children's individual interests are observed and then
developed further to extend their learning. Therefore there will be a number of di erent interests being developed at one
time to meet the needs of individuals.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

At Keldiley International School our aim is to

ensure that all the children in our care are happy,
confident, well-motivated, enthusiastic and
excited about life. We aim to provide an
appropriate and balanced academic challenge,
which will enable each pupil to realise his or her
potential in a safe, caring, clean and supportive
environment.

The primary formative years are set to achieve a

secure level of functionality and e ectiveness in
the core skills which includes: reading, oral and
written communication, enquiry and research, and
dexterity with numbers. These are the important
prime factors, without which further progress in the
students learning can be inhibited. In addition, through topics,
themes, projects and standardized internationally acceptable best
practice of teaching and learning, the pupils also acquire knowledge, skills and
understanding about their world. They are taught to inquire, use and apply skills
learned and develop international mindedness as they explore the global perspectives of various aspect of their learning.

The Primary School caters for children aged 5 to 10 (Yr. 1 to Yr. 6) years old. As is the Keldiley standard, classrooms
designed to be light, airy and well-resourced in order to meet the needs of the curriculum. At Keldiley we use an
integrated curriculum comprising of Nigerian, British, Montessori, American and other curricula to ensure that the
children are given the best and are up to speed.

DURING THE EARLY YEARS OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION, WE SEEK TO

Ÿ Ensure that pupils receive optimum tuition in order to maximize attainment and enhance their general
development.
Ÿ Emphasize the importance of developing the core skills in Literacy and Numeracy.
Ÿ Provide a stimulating and enjoyable learning environment in which happiness and application flourish side by
side.
Ÿ Advice, guide and train the child to develop appropriate behavioural skills at individual and group levels.
Ÿ Introduce another modern language, o ering the challenge of learning a di erent form of communication.
Ÿ O er the right challenges within a well-supervised and caring environment to enhance self-esteem and self-
confidence.
SENIOR ELEMENTARY (Y4 - Y6)

Ÿ Without losing sight of the initial objectives,

the senior elementary stage extends the
challenges o ered. The curriculum becomes
more specialized, with the addition of new
knowledge and skill training as detailed below:

Ÿ The emphasis on the core skills continues,

but increasingly, these skills are used to
seek out information and solve problems.
Ÿ Specialist help also continues for those
who have not yet achieved acceptable
levels of skill.
Ÿ The use of new technologies in science and
Information Communication Technology
and development of practical skills through Arts
and Craft, initiate the child into the modern world.
Ÿ The levels of demand in terms of self-discipline and personal
organization are raised and responsibilities are increased at both
individual and group level.
Ÿ Cultural and environmental studies advance knowledge of the world with various projects reinforcing the set
learning goals.
Ÿ
A solid foundation is created at this level to ensure a smooth transition into the secondary school.

AIMS
Ÿ To develop a whole school behaviour
policy, supported and followed by every

DEALING WITH NEGATIVE

BEHAVIOUR
We employ a number of sanctions to ensure a safe and positive learning environment. Each sanction is appropriated to an
individual situation. The safety of the children is paramount in all situations. If a child's behaviour endangers the safety of
others, the member of sta stops the activity and isolates this child. In accordance with the regulations we do not use
corporal punishment and as such Teachers in our School do not hit, push or slap children. Members of Sta only
intervene physically to restrain children from hurting themselves or others. The actions we take are in line with the
Nigerian and British government guidelines on the restraint of children.
We focus on the behaviour as the problem not the child; hence we punish by recording in the school communication
book, reading during play time etc
Furthermore, serious incidents including bullying or repeated medium level behaviour are referred to the Deputy or
Head Teacher. Bullying refers to actions taken by one or more children with the deliberate intention of hurting another
child or children, either physically or emotionally through racist or sexist actions or through inappropriate use of
websites, email, mobile phones, text messages and photographs (cyber bullying). Appropriate punishment may include
expulsion.

PARENTS AS PARTNERS
We work collaboratively with parents, to ensure continued learning on the home and school front as we understand that
reinforcement is the key to complete and total learning. A supportive dialogue system is built using the Home-School
Communication book and other avenues like the Parent Teachers conference, Open day and the Parent- Teacher
Association to help keep parents informed of their children's academic progress, behavioural concerns (if any) and
welfare in general. We understand parents need to believe that their children's learning needs are been met. As a result,
prospective parents and their children are encouraged to visit the school -and observe our student's work.
Homework is set 3 times a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday) while we give the pupil age appropriate books to read
