Course Description
The course objective is to learn to read, analyze, and write about elements in
literary passages including poetry, prose and dramatic literature.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

 Infer the meaning of words using context clues such as connotation,

denotation, tone and mood.
 Analyze different types of poetry including blank verse, free verse, narrative
poems and lyric poetry
 Interpret the meaning in different types of prose such as novels, short stories
and folktales
 Distinguish between different types of dramatic writing, including tragedy,
comedy, farce, melodrama and mixed forms
 Define and summarize different literary terms such as metaphor, synecdoche,
metonymy, clichés, equivocations, allusion, themes and motif
 Compare and contrast different types of points of view, including limited,
objective and omniscient.

Evaluation Description
Attendance and participation:
All students must attend and
participate in class activities. This
includes reading assigned materials
and coming to lessons prepared. This
also includes asking questions that
you do not understand, providing
opinions, thoughts, and taking part
and contributing in classroom
activities.
Online assignments:
Students must complete and submit
all assignments online. Assignments
must follow individual assignments
instructions and late submissions are
not allowed.
Online participation
Students are required to complete
lessons before attending class. This
has to be done before class and outside
class time. The e-learning webpage
tracks all learning progress and
includes quizzes for all units. Students
must complete all quizzes as part of
online participation.
There is a textbook for this course which
is compiled by Miss Chalermkwan,
however, should you want to read on
screen, all information is included on
the ELearning website.
