 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to La Joya Community High School’s Earth Day project. During this project students will have the opportunity to research and present
their own Public Service Announcement (PSA) on an environmental issue that your peers should be made aware.
Your team will highlight an ecological issue through the creation of: 1. A POSTER OR NARRATED POWERPOINT, 2. A 2-3 MINUTE
VIDEO, 3. TRI-FOLD BROCHURES, 4. GROUP RESEARCH PAPER 5. PRESENTATION
The project will consist of 3-4 students in each grouping or 7 groups per class period. Groups will be either chosen by the teacher or at least some
members may be assigned to various groups. There will be periodic checks to ensure that each group is making progress, additionally, at the
conclusion of the project each member will give an evaluation of each group member’s participation in the creation, research, and execution of the
project. Each group will present their project and video, a total of 4-5 minutes, to the class.

Poster/PowerPoint requirements:

 Creation of either a full-size poster or Narrated PowerPoint presentation on your issue, it must illustrate the following:
o What is it?
o Who first discussed the issue?
o When was it identified?
o Where was it first researched?
o What causes it?
o What impact does it make on the environment/population?
o What is at least research based solution to the problem?
o What’s important to know?
o Is the public already aware of this issue?
o What do the opponents of this issues say, and why?
o How many news article or public news has been run?
o Is there disinformation or fake news?
o What scientific facts do the detractors present?
o What is currently being done to resolve the issue?
o Must include visuals of the issue
o Must be neat, organized and visually appealing
o Work cited page with minimum of 3 credible sources
Criteria for the Video:

 Each group member must participate, this means that everyone must have a speaking part within the video and are involved with the
development and creation of the video. The video PSA must have the following:
o Written Brainstorm ideas
o Written storyline of idea
o Storyboard of idea (pictures and captions of idea)
o Written script
o Video

Criteria for the Tri-fold

 The Tri-fold is a modified version of the Poster board/PowerPoint presentation and its purpose is to give each student within all the classes
may have access to the information that you are presenting. The Tri-fold must contain the following information:
o What is it?
o Who first discussed the issue?
o When was it identified?
o Where was it first researched?
o What causes it?
o What impact does it make on the environment/population?
o What is at least research based solution to the problem?
o What’s important to know?
o What is currently being done to resolve the issue?
o Must include visuals of the issue
o Must be neat, organized and visually appealing
o Work cited page with minimum of 3 credible sources
Criteria for the Individual and Group research paper

 The purpose of the research paper is a major part of being a scientist, remember Peer Review, this is an opportunity to find out information
about an ecological issue and write up the findings so that one’s peers may review the scholarship (researched information) being
presenting. The research paper must be written in APA format and must consist of the following set of information which should be
researched with a minimum of 3 credible sources (NO WIKIPEDIA):
o What is the environmental issue?
o Who first discussed the environmental issue?
o When was environmental issue identified?
o Where was environmental issue first researched?
o What causes the environmental issue?
o What impact does the issue have on the environment/population?
o What is at least research based solution to the environmental issue?
o What’s important to know about the environmental issue?
o What do the opponents of this environmental issue say, and why?
o What scientific facts do the detractors present?
o What is currently being done to resolve the issue?
o Must be neat, organized and visually appealing
o Work cited page with minimum of 3 credible sources
