1. Introduction
1.1 Scope
This document helps the hospital and the Varian installation team to prepare for the forthcoming
TrueBeam, Clinac (C-Series Linac) or Acuity installation, which will have the Mission Critical
Application Protection (MICAP) setup to isolate the Varian private network related data
communication from the hospital network. This document is used to collect the information about
the site’s network infrastructure and configuration, so that the necessary preparations can be
done to make the installation as smooth as possible, and to avoid any unnecessary interruptions
to the operations of the clinic in case of an upgrade.
For details on MICAP, please refer to the MICAP Whitepaper, available from Varian.
Return the filled in survey prior to the installation or the upgrade to your Varian Project
Manager.

Define a hostname for the NID. If no hostname is defined, the following default names will be
used: VARIANFW1 or for TrueBeam, TrueBeamFWxxxx (xxxx is the TrueBeam serial number):
NID Hostname:
Choose either an available static IP address or reserve an IP address (when using DHCP) for
the NID. Fully dynamic IP addressing for the NID is not supported by Varian:
or
2.
The following information is required for Mosaiq OIS sites only. Provide the machine name and
IP address of the Mosaiq Sequencer which will be used for the Varian Medical Systems medical
device:
The Image Server for the site is the expected location the TrueBeam will sync/mirror with. If the Customer
does not have an Image Server or does not want to use their image server for this purpose then a different
computer outside the CNID can be used. The term “Image Server” in this section will refer to the computer
that is outside the CNID and being used to sync/mirror with the TrueBeam.
At a 3rd party OIS environment this share can be setup at the Image Server. We have discussed this with
Elekta and there are no issues. Access to that machine will need to be coordinated with the customer as
Varian may not have access to it or login credentials for it. If the customer does not want to use this machine
as the mirror location, please reference the first part of this note
1. This share created on the image server can be done at any time before the TrueBeam is
installed.
2. IP Address of the Image Server: ________________________________.
3. Create the following directory structure on the Image Server:
D:\Varian
D:\Varian\Transfer
D:\Varian\Transfer\RTPlans
D:\Varian\Transfer\Gating
D:\Varian\Transfer\TDS
4. Additional directory structure will be created under the TDS directory above by the
TrueBeam. No manual entries for the directories listed below is necessary.
D:\Varian\Transfer\TDS\{machineID}\Backup
D:\Varian\Transfer\TDS\{machineID}\Treatment
D:\Varian\Transfer\TDS\{machineID}\TrajectoryLog\Daily QA
D:\Varian\Transfer\TDS\{machineID}\TrajectoryLog\Treatment
Etc…
5. The Image Server (machine with VA_Transfer share) must have the following:
- local user: dicomdaemon
- This password can be customer defined.
- dicomdaemon - member of the Varian Applications and Administrators group
6. If the group Varian Applications does not exist then set the properties of the new
VA_TRANSFER share to be the same as the VA_DATA$ share that already exists.
NOTE: Refer to the ARIA Security Implementation Guide (SIG-SS-xx, where 'xx' reflects the
ARIA version) for additional details for the share and user setup on the ARIA servers.
