Instructions for Temporary, Renewal or Duplicate New Jersey Driver License

Eligibility Requirements:
1. Applicant must be a New Jersey Licensee and a permanent New Jersey resident.
2. Applicant must be out of state for an extended period of time and not located in the tri-state area.
3. The current New Jersey license is non-Digital, and non-CDL. If your current license has a digital
photo, it is not eligible for a temporary license but can be renewed with the appropriate fee (see fee
listing below).
4. The current New Jersey license is expired, about to expire or lost for less than three years.
5. Applicant cannot be a CDL class A, B, or C license holder.
6. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and not have a temporary visa status.

Documents Requirements:
1. A letter explaining why you are unable to come to an MVC Agency and when you plan to return (Must
be original. No fax or photocopies).
2. A completed driver license application (BA-208).
3. A check or money order for the applicable amount (do not send cash).
4. Six points of Identification (certified or photo copies preferred). Please do not send originals. Refer to
enclosed brochure or visit our website at www.njmvc.gov.
5. Proof of New Jersey Address is required. Refer to enclosed brochure.
6. Applicant’s signature written on the same sheet of paper three times (Must be original, No fax or
photocopies).
7. Applicant’s out of state/country address. Under no circumstances is the NJMVC allowed to mail to NJ
address’s.

Fees:
One Year Temporary License – Auto (class D) Only - $11.00
One Year Temporary License – Auto (class D), MC (endorsement M) - $18.75
One Year Temporary License – Auto (class D), Boat - $15.00
One Year Temporary License – Auto (class D), MC (endorsement M), Boat - $23.25
One Year Temporary License – MC (endorsement M), Boat - $18.75
Duplicate Digital License - $11.00
Renewal Auto (class D) Digital License - $24.00
Renewal Auto (class D), Boat Digital License - $42.00
Renewal Auto (class D), MC Digital License - $42.00
Renewal Auto (class D), Boat, MC (endorsement M) Digital License - $ 60.00

Note:
To ensure your driver license is received in an efficient and timely manner, please provide a prepaid
tracking envelope. This is to prevent any out-of-country mailing delays. All licenses issued through the
mail will not have a valid signature on them, therefore they may not be valid for banking, shopping, check
cashing etc.
