Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero) or better known
as Pelindo I, a State-Owned Enterprise engaged in port services. With its head office located in Medan – North Sumatra, Indonesia, Pelindo I’s area of operations covers four provinces, including Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau and Riau Archipelago and manages 16 branch ports, 2 (two) business Unit and 4 (four) subsidiary companies. Its scope of activities are basin and anchorage, pilotage and tugboat services. Port services and other facilities for mooring and stevedoring, Warehousing services, - Land leasing,Electricity, / fresh water and waste disposal installation, container terminal liquid and dry bulk and passenger terminal services. And other supporting services, such as Cargo Consolidation and distribution center Container depot and logistics services. Situated on the Malacca Strait, in one of the world’s busiest trading routes and the country’s strategic shipping lanes, Pelindo I has contributed significantly to Indonesia’s economic progress, especially in the western part of the country, in particular Sumatra and the surrounding regions which are rich in natural resources and cultural heritage. In support of the Government’s program, Pelindo I is moving forward to accelerate the development and optimization of Belawan as its main port, with the development of Belawan International Container Terminal (BICT) with the harbor extention of 700 meters. At the same time, Kuala Tanjung Port is developed as the Hub Port in Indonesia’s western region in a bid to accommodate the increasing flow of container traffic in the Malacca Strait, as well as capturing potential market opportunities. The current progress of the construction has reached 70% and will be completed by mid 2017. The port design will be integrated with the surrounding areas such as areas of industry such as in the region Kuala Tanjung, Sei mangkei and Belawan. The port will improve logistics performance and competitiveness in Indonesia and will contribute positively to the economic growth areas of Indonesia. Pelindo I also develops the Port of Dumai and Port of Belawan as the largest port of export for CPO in Indonesia, with liquid and dry bulk. In view of Malacca Strait’s strategic potential, the company also focuses its attention on developing marine services as a promising business segment Currently, Indonesia Port Corporation I has a strategic plan to expand its business by building new port, new terminal and develop subsidiaries, as well as providing logistic services. One of our big projects is to build a new Indonesia hub port in order to align the Indonesia grand strategy development to speed up the economic growth. The company will need a skilled employee with recent knowledge and skill in order to design and develop port business to be more efficient and modern management using best practice methods, concept, and theories to understand and analyze the complexities of global maritime supply chains in a holistic and multidisciplinary way with the result. I am very interested in the master program offered by Netherland Maritime University master Program of Science Transport and Logistics to study about port management and supply chain of logistics. After this study, I will be assigned to directly implement the skill and knowledge to enhance the port business in Pelindo I as well as to transfer my knowledge and skill to other employees.
