Standards. According to ASTM E2847, “Standard Practice for Calibration
and Accuracy Verification of Wideband Infrared Thermometers”, The
following equipment is a must for any infrared thermometer calibration:
• Thermal radiation source (Standard Radiation). A calibrated
temperature source that provides radiation.
• Transfer standard (Standard for the Thermal Radiation). It is used to
calibrate the thermal radiation source.
• Ambient temperature thermometer (Standard Ambient
Temperature). It is used to monitor the temperature inside the
laboratory. This is especially important because for some infrared
thermometers, ambient temperature plays a big role in uncertainty.
• Distance measuring device (Standard Distance). It is used to
determine the distance from the radiation source to the infrared
thermometer.
Fixture. It is a tripod what holds the infrared thermometer.
