Ms. Winters Science Class Expectations, Procedures and Information

Welcome to the new school year! I hope you enjoyed your summer and are looking forward to an
exciting year. This course is designed to provide each student with an understanding of science
concepts. After completing this course every student will have a sufficient background in science
and will be well prepared to enter the next grade.

Supplies Needed Daily:

You will keep your learning materials in class every day, so a pencil is usually all that’s needed!

 Composition notebook (lab notebook)

 Pencil

Supplies Needed for the Classroom Community:

I treat my classroom as a community working toward a common goal. In order to ensure all students
have the materials needed to succeed in achieving this goal, I ask for some supplies to be kept in
the classroom for the community to use. If you are able to contribute more than just one of each,
the supplies will be put to good use!

 1 package of colored pencils or markers

 1 package of glue sticks
 1 box of tissues or Clorox wipes
 1 box Ziploc bags
 1 bottle hand sanitizer

Class Expectations:
 I will ALWAYS expect your best effort in this class regarding your work ethic and
behavior.
 You are expected to ask and answer questions. You are encouraged to take part in class
discussions.
 Notes must be taken daily inside of your lab notebook. You will use the beginning of the
notebook as a table of contents and the remaining section for notes. We will setup
notebooks in class together as a group. Your notebook will be the hub of your knowledge of
all things science – use it to study! Prior to the end of each unit (before your tests), you will
receive a ‘classwork’ grade for all assignments in your notebook.

Be a STAR in the Classroom:

 SAFETY
o This class is hands-on and requires mindfulness in order to protect the safety of
yourself and others. Some examples of unsafe laboratory behavior include:
 Failure to follow instructions.
 Failure to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
 Inappropriate use of laboratory equipment.
 Horseplay in the laboratory area.
 Eating in the laboratory.
 Tenacity
o You will be learning new content and some of it will be challenging. Do not give up.

Homework
 There will be 1-2 assignments per week.
 It is your responsibility to record all notes and homework assignments if you are absent from
class.
 You can check the class website for information and worksheets about what you missed when you
were out!

Late Work:
 Late work will be docked 25% the day after it is due.
 Late work will not be accepted after the completion of a unit. All work for the unit is due by the
final unit exam day.
 Late work will not be accepted after the completion of a quarter for a grade change. However,
if late work is submitted after the quarter mark, the grade will be changed for the semester
and final grade markers.

Tests, Quizzes and Projects

 At the beginning and end of a unit, pre and post-tests are given to measure and track student
growth.
 All quizzes and exams will be notified in advance.
 You will be given plenty of notification and time to complete long-term projects.
 If you are absent the day of an exam, be prepared to take it the following day.
