Thread Type Compatibility

In order for two components to fit properly, thread types must be compatible. See the list below for thread types that can be used together.
Thread Type Compatibility
Tapered Threads
NPT—National Pipe Taper Male threads work with female NPT, NPTF, NPSM, NPSH, NPSL, and NPSC.
(Also known as MPT and FPT threads) Female threads work with male NPT and NPTF.
NPTF—National Pipe Tapered Fuel Male threads work with female NPTF, NPT, NPSM, and NPSH.
(Also known as Dryseal) Female threads work with male NPTF and NPT.
BSPT—British Standard Pipe Taper Male threads work with female BSPT and BSPP.
(Also known as R threads and 55° Whitworth) Female threads work with male BSPT.
Straight (Parallel) Threads
BSPP—British Standard Pipe Parallel Male threads work with female BSPP.
(Also known as G threads and 55° Whitworth) Female threads work with male BSPP and BSPT.
Male threads work with female NPSM and NPSH.
NPSM—National Pipe Straight Mechanical Female threads work with male NPSM, NPT, and NPTF.
Male threads work with female NPSH.
NPSH—National Pipe Straight Hose Female threads work with male NPSH, NPT, NPTF, and NPSM.
NPSL—National Pipe Straight Locknut Threads are female and work with male NPT.
NPSC—National Pipe Straight Coupling Threads are female and work with male NPT.
NH/NST—National Hose/National Standard Thread Work with other NH/NST threads.
GHT—Garden Hose Thread Work with other GHT threads.
UN/UNF—Unified Work with other UN/UNF threads.
Metric Thread DIN 3852 Work with other DIN 3852 threads.
Metric Thread DIN 3901/3902 Work with other DIN 3901/3902 threads.

Unthreaded Pipe Dimensions and Schedule

Metal pipe, plastic pipe, and plastic pipe fittings are generally rated by schedule, which refers to the wall thickness. As the Schedule
increases, the walls get thicker towards the center for any given pipe size.
Metal pipe fittings are not usually rated by schedule; they are instead rated by the amount of pressure (psi) they can withstand.
