GRADING POLICY:
Assignment: Percentage of Grade
Major Tests and Projects 57%
Daily Grades, quizzes and lab reports 23%
Final Test 20%

SUPPLIES: Students will need a 3 ring binder, pens/pencils and notebook paper.

CLASS EXPECTATIONS: Students are expected to bring their notebook, calculator, paper and
writing utensils to class each day. Work is due on the day it is assigned, unless otherwise noted.
Any major assignment or project turned in one day late will be counted off 10 points daily and may
not be accepted after 5 days.

ATTENDANCE/MAKEUP WORK: It is important that students attend class regularly. It is the

student’s responsibility to check the absentee folder and obtain any missed work. All work should
be completed and turned in within 5 days starting with the day the student returns from the
absence. Arrangements to make up any missed tests/quizzes must be made with the teacher upon
returning to class. All missing work must be completed and turned in before the 9 weeks grading
period is complete, it will NOT be collected after that time period.

TEST RECOVERY POLICY: If a student earns a 69% or less on a unit test, then the student may retake
that unit test to earn a maximum of a 70% on the assessment. If the student chooses to retake the
test, then the test retake must be completed within 1 week after the original graded assessment
has been given back to the student for review.

EXTRA HELP: I am more than willing to offer additional help before or after school (I am not
available Thursday mornings). Please let me know ahead of time to make arrangements if you
would like additional help mastering environmental science.

LAB EXPECTATIONS: All labs will be conducted in a manner consistent with the lab safety rules that
are distributed and signed at the beginning of the semester. These rules will be re-emphasized at
the beginning of each lab.
EATING IN CLASS: Eating and drinking need to be kept to a minimum. Due to the risk of
contamination from chemicals, no food/drink may be consumed during a lab. If trash is left in the
room, then eating and drinking will be totally prohibited.

HALL PASSES AND TARDIES: Students should make every effort to go to lockers, restroom, etc.
between classes. Students will be marked tardy if they are not in the classroom when the bell rings.

USE OF PHONE AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES: Phones and other electronic devices should NOT be
seen nor heard during class. Electronic devices may never be used as a calculator during a quiz or a
test. If an electronic device is visible during an exam, it may be considered cheating.

BONUS BUCKS: Extra credit is typically awarded in the form of “bonus bucks.” They may be earned
in various ways throughout the semester. Students are responsible for keep up with their bonus
bucks. Bonus bucks may be added to any assignment except the final exam. The conversion rate of
bonus bucks to bonus points is as followed:

1 bonus buck = 1 bonus point on a formative assignment

2 bonus bucks = 1 bonus point on a summative assignment
OTHER CLASSROOM RULES: Be respectful. Be on time and prepared to learn. Follow directions. Be
kind to one another.
