Admission Information Handout for NMAT –2011

1 Introduction

1.1 This booklet gives information about the Admission Procedure and Admission Test of
following Programmes for academic year commencing from June 2011.

a. FT MBA Core Programme (300 seats)


b. FT MBA Actuarial Science (30 seats)
c. FT MBA Banking (60 seats)
d. FT MBA Capital Market (60 seats)
e. FT MBA Pharmaceutical Management (60 seats)
f. FT MBA in HR (30 seats)
g. Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Bangalore (120 seats) & Hyderabad Campus –
(60 seats)
h. FT EPGDBM – Bangalore Campus (60 seats)

1.2 Admission for above mentioned programmes is through NMIMS Management Aptitude
Test conducted by NMIMS

2 Important Instructions

2.1 For NMAT 2011, the candidates can apply for more than one Programme.

3. Eligibility criteria for admission

MBA-Core

Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the
aggregate. Two years post qualification work experience will be preferred. Candidates appearing for
final year degree exam can also apply.

MBA Actuarial Science

Candidates should have attained any of the following Educational Standards with minimum 50%
marks in aggregate at graduation/post graduation degree level examination.
a. Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics / Mathematics / Engineering /Economics / Computer Science / Allied
Sciences with minimum 50% marks in Aggregate. Two years post qualification work experience will
be preferred.
b. Graduate or Post Graduate with Mathematical subjects. For this purpose following subjects
constitute mathematical subjects :

1. Mathematics or any of its branches
2. Statistics or any of its sub classification such as Mathematical Statistics and Applied Statistics
3. Economics
4. Any discipline of Engineering
5. Subject in Science such as Physics or its allied branches

c. Fully qualified members of following professional bodies are also eligible.


1. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)
2. The Institute of Cost and Works Accountant of India (ICWAI)

MBA Banking Management & MBA Capital Market


Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the
aggregate. Two years post qualification work experience will be preferred.

MBA in HR
Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the
aggregate.

Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) – Bangalore & Hyderabad Campus


Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the
aggregate. Two years post qualification work experience will be preferred. Candidates appearing final
year degree exam can also apply.

MBA Pharmaceutical Management

Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Life Sciences, Medical doctors (MBBS), BSMS, BHMS,BAMS,
B.Sc and M.Sc in Biotechnology from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the
aggregate. Candidates with Post Graduate degree in Economics, Psychology and Sociology are also
eligible.

Please note that separate selection process will be conducted & a separate merit list will be drawn
for MBA Pharmaceutical Management Programme.

Full Time EPGDBM(Bangalore Campus)

Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from recognized University OR Equivalent pattern recognized by
the UGC & AIU with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate. Five Years Post qualification work
experience in Supervisory/ Executive Cadre as on 31st December 2010 is essential

Eligibility Criteria for International candidates


Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from recognized University bythe AIU with minimum 50% marks in
aggregate or ‘B’ Grade /equivalent CGPA. Two years post qualification work experience will be
preferred. Candidates with valid GMAT score of 650 and above can apply. Following documents to be
produced at the time of Group Discussion/ Personal Interview (for shortlisted candidates only).
1) Statement of Purpose (SOP) : Reason for applying to the proposed programme, study interests, future
career plans etc.
2) Letter of Recommendation: Two testimonials are required.Recommendation letter should be from a
faculty member/Professional Associate /Referee at the last school you attended as a full time student or
from work associates who can comment on your academic potential for graduate work.

3) English Proficiency: Adequate command of spoken and written English is required for admission.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores are required of all applicants whose
first language is not English.
4) Visas: Student has to maintain an appropriate visa status for their stay in the India.

The following criteria are common for all programmes

3.2 Candidates who have not cleared their graduation in the first attempt are NOT eligible to apply.
Further, those candidates who have cleared their graduation by doing a part-time course or through
distance learning/correspondence/externally/open school are not eligible to apply.

3.3 Candidates appearing for their graduation examination can also apply but their admission to the
Programmes will be subject to obtaining the required minimum cut off marks and also producing all the
necessary documents, in original, within the given stipulated time.

3.4 Those candidates who have passed, or, have appeared for graduation examination from a University
where Grade Point Average is given, such candidates must produce in writing from the University
concerned about the equivalent percentage for the GPA obtained.

3.5 The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in aggregate
from any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other
educational institutions established under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent
qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

3.6 It is sole responsibility of the candidates to ascertain whether they possess the necessary and requisite
qualification for the admission at NMIMS.

3.7 If at any stage, it is found that a candidate does not satisfy the eligibility criteria or the information
furnished by him/ her in the online registration is incorrect, his/her application for the admission
to the Programme, even if selected, will stand cancelled. Candidates appearing for NMAT , Group
Discussion & Personal Interview will do so at their own risk of eventually forfeiting their
admission for want of meeting the eligibility criteria.

3.8 NMIMS reserves the right to alter the terms of eligibility without intimation to the applicants.

Pearson Vue will carry out the online registration & will conduct NMAT on behalf
of NMIMS. Interested candidates have to visit the NMIMS website for online registration.
For appearing for NMAT online application has to be duly submitted & payment of
registration charges needs to be made in any of the prescribed mode within stipulated time.
Candidates can apply for more than one Programme as per his /her eligibility by giving
preferences. The selection of candidate to any Programme applied will be as per merit & as per
preferences only. The preferences once given cannot be changed later on.

The registration charges for NMAT 2011 will be Rs.1650/- for normal registration & Rs. 2150/ for late
registration and the mode of payment will be as under:

2. Cash at bank or
3. Demand Draft

4.1 All those who registered successfully will be called for the test, provided they satisfy condition
of eligibility. The candidates should check that he/she is eligible as per the conditions regarding
qualification stated above.

4.2 The NMAT 2011 will be conducted at following centers (Cities)

Test Centres in India:

North Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Lucknow


West Mumbai, Ahmedabad
South Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Cochin
Central Indore, Allahabad, Raipur, Bhopal
East Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Guwahati.

The venue (School/College) at each centre will be communicated to the candidates in due course
of time through the website. You are required to download the call letter from our website
www.nmims.edu No separate call letter will be mailed.

Note : The University reserves the right to cancel any venue of examination for any reason and
the applicant will have to take the test at any of the other venues available. The Institute’s
decision in this regard will be final.

4.3 Candidates will be short-listed on the basis of their performance / rank in NMAT
for the subsequent evaluation process. i.e. Group Discussion & Personal Interview (PI).
Short listed candidates may visit our website for update.
Note : Group Discussion & Personal Interview will be conducted in Mumbai only.

4.4 The names of short listed candidates will be put up on the website. Actual date and time for
GD/PI will be put up on the website on the as per the important dates which will be announced
on the website in due course.

4.5 The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of the application data in terms of academic
marks obtained, work experience, marks obtained in NMAT and GD/PI. The merit number in
this will depend upon the number of seats to be filled in.

4.6 The selection criteria will be based on merit. The cut-off for deciding the merit shall
lie solely with NMIMS. Also, those candidates who have applied for more than one
Programme ,in their application forms, their selection will be based on the merit score obtained
by them as well as on the availability of the seats. In this regard, the decision of the NMIMS will
be final and undisputable and shall be binding on all concerned.

(Note : 15% seats are reserved for Management Quota in each Programme out of total intake)
4.7 If at any stage, it is found that a candidate does not satisfy the eligibility criteria or the
information furnished by him / her in the application form is incorrect, his / her application for
admission to the course, even if selected, will stand immediately cancelled. Such candidates
appearing for the NMAT and subsequent evaluation process will do so at their own risk.

4.8 Canvassing in any form for admission will disqualify the candidate.

4.9 Regular classes will commence from the date given as per the sheet unless announced otherwise.

4.10 All matters of dispute will be subject to the legal jurisdiction of Mumbai only.

4.11 Candidates are advised to visit the NMIMS website www.nmims.edu to know the details of
various steps of selection process. All communication to the candidates will be through
nmims website only. No separate communication will be sent in this regard.

5 Structure of the Test

5.1 NMAT would be an objective type multiple-choice test. (There will be no descriptive type
of questions).

5.2 The NMAT will comprise the following:

The candidate should note that it is important for them to perform well relative to other
candidates in each of the 3 sections of the test as the score of each section and the overall
score will be used to shortlist the candidate for the second stage of the selection process as
well as in the final ranking.

Please note that if the candidate is not satisfied by his/her NMAT score in the first attempt he/she
may schedule for retaking NMAT by visiting www.pearsonvue.com/nmims and logging in
with the allotted username and password.

GUIDELINES FOR DISABLED CANDIDATES

Disabilities will include following (as per PWD ACT of India),

1. Blindness;
2. Low vision;
3. Leprosy-cured;
4. Hearing impairment;
5. Loco motor disability;
6. Cerebral palsy
7. Learning Disability / Dyslexia;
8. Mental illness;

Candidates who wish to request an accommodation must fill the details in the online application
while registering. The candidate must then scan their Disability Certificate and email it together with the
candidate’s NMAT ID and name, to NMAT2011@pearson.com 5 or more days prior to their scheduled
date Each application will be reviewed on a case-to-case basis and appropriate assistance will be made
available at the test centre. Pearson VUE will contact the candidates to ensure proper assistance is
provided to them.

Refund of fees in case of Withdrawal of Admission: Withdrawal of admission means
voluntary withdrawal by candidate for any reason.

The candidate should submit a written request for cancellation of admission and submit it to Deputy
Registrar (Admissions) along with original fee receipt.

Refund Rules:

The Schedule of refund of fees will be as follows:


1. Till the date of Rs. 1000/- will be deducted as administrative
commencement of the charges
programme.

2. After the Rs. 1000 + Proportionate fees i.e. one tenth of the
commencement of fees for every completed month or part there of, if
programme but before the the seat vacated by the candidate is filled. If the seat
close of the admission. remains vacant /unfilled no fees will be refunded.
