There were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending August 12, 2018. Statewide, the average
temperature was 76.3 degrees, 2.6 degrees above the normal. Precipitation averaged 0.92 inches. Topsoil
moisture supply was rated at 10 percent very short, 30 percent short, 59 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.
Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 11 percent very short, 30 percent short, 58 percent adequate, and 1 percent
surplus. Corn dough reached 90 percent, compared to 74 percent last year. Corn dented reached 45 percent,
compared to 24 percent last year. Corn condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 18 percent
fair, 45 percent good, and 32 percent excellent. Soybeans setting pods was at 90 percent, compared to 81
percent last year. Soybean condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 46
percent good, and 27 percent excellent. Sorghum headed reached 81 percent, compared to the 5-year average of
74 percent. Sorghum coloring reached 52 percent, compared to 45 percent last year. Sorghum mature reached
22 percent, compared to 4 percent last year. Sorghum condition was rated at 8 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 61
percent good, and 6 percent excellent.
