GEA Searle Product Selector 3.

5 – User’s Guide

Introduction
These notes provide basic usage information for the March 2010 release of the GEA Searle Product
Selector, version 3.5. For a more general overview of this new version of the software, please read
the GEA Searle Product Selector – Overview document.

Please note that there are currently some limitations in this version. Details are given in the section
‘Limitations’ below.

Basic Operation
Choose the type of product by clicking the appropriate icon or by choosing from the drop-down list.

Enter your requirements:

Perform the selection by pressing Enter, pressing F9 or clicking the Select (F9) button. A list of
alternative products will be listed in a table.
Select one or more products by clicking in the left-hand margin of the table. Click a single row to
change the selection to that row. Use Ctrl-Click to select additional, single rows; use Shift-Click to
select a range of rows at one time.

Then click the Specifications tab to display the product specification for each selected model.

Click the Options tab to display pricing information for each selected model. You will be able to
choose optional extras and calculate a revised price.
You can export details of your selection to a PDF file or to an Excel spreadsheet (if you have Excel
2002 or later).

To print just the currently displayed table, click the appropriate icon at the top of the table:

To print all the tables for the current selection, click the print icon near the top left of the screen (or
choose File, Print from the main menu or press Ctrl-P). Please note that this feature is not yet
complete.

Options
Tools, Ranges...
You can choose to include or exclude certain product ranges from your selection. These changes will
remain in effect until you close the program, but are not saved once you close the program. This is
by design.

As an alternative, you can enter model name filters into the ‘Model’ field on the main selection
screen.

Tools, Options...
You can modify various program options using the Tools, Options, General and Tools, Options,
Advanced screens.

Tools, Discounts...
Normally the GEA Searle Product Selector will select products and display the GEA Searle list price. If
your account manager has provided you with discount information, you can choose to display
discounted prices instead, by selecting the appropriate option from the drop-down list.

If you are a reseller of our products and have a standard discount structure which you apply to
calculate selling prices for your own customers, it is technically possible to include these pricing rules
as well. Please ask your account manager for more information.
Project Pane
The new Project pane allows you to build up a list of associated selections for a single project.

You can change the name of the project and of each item within it.

You can associate the project with a customer and add brief notes which will be stored in the project
file.

(At this time, not all the facilities of the Project Pane are available).

To add details of a selection to the project, either drag rows from the Results screen into the Project
Pane, or right-click a row in the Results Grid and choose Add to Project from the pop-up menu.

You can save and restore the contents of the Project Pane using File Save or File Save As and File
Open or File Recent Projects.

If you click on a Selection node in the Project Pane (‘Condenser’ or ‘Coolers’ in the example above),
the Requirements screen will change to reflect the stored selection criteria. You can then click Select
(F9) to repeat the selection.

At present, clicking on the name of a selected unit in the Project Pane will have no effect. These are
shown as a visual reminder of your preferred selections only. To view the specification, you must
repeat the selection process. Please note also that choices you make in the Options page are not
currently stored in the project file.

Limitations
The option to print all current data to a single PDF or Excel file is not complete. If you use this option
you will not see full details of your requirements nor will you see drawings. This will be improved in
a future release.

Drawings are not yet available for all new products in the range.
How to display all capacities for an EC unit
This procedure will display a table of data (including capacity and noise level) for an EC unit running
at a selection of typical speeds.

In the Model Filter box, enter the model you require, for example MMA133H-EC.

In the Requirements, Duty box, enter 0 kW.

Click Select.

The results list will include one row for each standard speed in the catalogue.
