The Gospel According to John

I. Introduction

The gospel of Jesus Christ in the Bible was presented in a quadraphonic views. The gospel
according to John written by apostle John "the beloved disciple" to present Jesus Christ in view of
His deity.

The Gospel - is not a code of ethics or morals; not a creed to be accepted; not a system of
religion to be adhered to; not a good advice to follow... It is a divine Person, Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:1 - 4 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto
you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep
in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you
first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the
scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the
scriptures:

Quadraphonic View - The Design Structure

Why Four Gospels?

Not incidental: The Holy Spirit determined before the foundation of the world that there would be
these four portraits/presentation of how our holy God step down from eternity to dwell with His
creation and to redeem them from the predicament that only His holiness can, the Lord Jesus
Christ. He took these four men and prepared them to tell the story of Jesus’ life, each in his own
way.

Levitical Offerings (Lev 1-7)

John: the death of our Lord as the burnt offering, glorifying the Father in the scene where He
had been so dishonored by sin;

Luke: as the peace offering, that man may have fellowship with the Father.

Matthew: whose theme is the government of God, identifies the work of the Cross with the
trespass offering, where the Lord could say, as in Psalm 69, “Then I restored that which I took
not away”

Mark: the sin offering is before us, Christ dying not only for trespasses committed, but because
we are sinners by nature, which our practice makes evident.

Both beginning and veteran Bible students will find this particular book rewarding. As one
commentator quipped, “A child can wade in it and an elephant can bathe in it.”

- we may read it again and again yet we found gold again and again
- the very demonstration of the inexhaustible word of God.

John’s Purpose/Goal

John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God;
and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Scholars account that The book of John covers only 21 days of Jesus’ 3 1/2 years of ministry. It
devotes 10 (of 21) chapters to just one week; one-third of the verses (237 of 879 verses) cover a
single 24-hour period in Jesus’ ministry.

John Chapter 1
1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2
The same was in the beginning with God.
3
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

"In the beginning" - chronologically the first verse in the entire bible... precedes all things even the
creation... precedes far more than Gen 1:1. - mystery of continued existence - different from
came into being..creation came into being but God existence we cannot comprehend.

"was the Word" - the logos, one of the title of Jesus Christ "The Word of God"

John uniquely uses the "Logos" to our Lord Jesus Christ...

Revelation 19:11-13 11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat
upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12 His
eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that
no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name
is called The Word of God.

Jesus Christ as the basic unit of a word - the alphabet

Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is,
and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with
our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

What is the word of God? How often did we glibly say "study the word of God" "spread the..."
"preach..." so and so
Why we have a Bible? What is the different of the Bible from other piece of literature and writting
and so called holy book?
KJV
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged
sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and
is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. - the power of God manifested in the hearts
of men. How often when the word of God pierce our spirit that we stand in awe to realise that in
that particular time His words discern the thought and intent of our very heart. No other book in
earth written that has the power that the bible has. The prophecy, not to mention the lives change
in every part pf the earth, unfolding before our very eyes is manifestation of how God held His
word and His promise the reality of His existence.
I—That Christ Is The Eternal Revealer Of God the Father

“In the beginning was the Word,”—the Logos. The emboding of an idea. A word is
the revealer of the speaker. Christ here is called “THE WORD.” God has many words,
many revealers. All the phenomena of nature all the operations of His power, all the
dispensations of His government, are His words; His revealers. But Christ is the Logos.
He is not a word, but “THE WORD.” As the Revealer, this Word is distinguished—
First: By its faithfulness. Christ is the exact Exponent of the Divine intellect and
heart. There is not the lightest shade of discrepancy. He agrees with Eternal reality; thus
He is called “the Truth,” and “the faithful and true Witness.” This Word is distinguished

Secondly: By its fullness. Other words only speak partially of God. Some give
intimations of His wisdom, some of His power, some of His goodness, &c. But Christ
speaks out the whole God. “He is the express image of His Person.” “ So that he that hath
seen Him hath seen the Father.” The Word is distinguished—
Thirdly: By its forcefulness. Human words are sometimes powerful. They are not
always air; they are sometimes a force. God’s words in nature are mighty. The Psalmist
speaks of the “voice of the Lord,” as “breaking the cedars,” “making Lebanon bound like
a young unicorn,” “dividing the flames,” &c., &c. But Christ is a “Word,” infinitely more
powerful. As a “Word” He moves and sways the moral mind of the universe; and more,
He calls dead souls to life. Christ is “the power of God” He is then, the Eternal Logos.

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they
which testify of me. .

Why we study the scripture?...

Matthew 16:15 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? - the most important
question that we have to answer in our life, individually. Why?
John 14:6-7 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from
henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. John 14:9 ...he that hath seen me hath seen the
Father...

Knowing Jesus Christ is our most exalted privileged...

Isaiah 48:16 16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the
beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent
me.

[Each declared to be wrought wholly, and independently, by each person:]

Creation of the Universe:

Father: Psalm 102:25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the
work of thy hands.
Proverbs 8:22-31 22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of
old. 23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. 24 When there
were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. 25
Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: 26 While as yet he had not
made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. 27 When he prepared
the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: 28 When he
established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: 29 When he gave
to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the
foundations of the earth: 30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his
delight, rejoicing always before him; 31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my
delights were with the sons of men.

Son: Colossians 1:16-17 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are
in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers:
all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things
consist. ; John 1:1-3
13
Spirit: Genesis 1:2 ...And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. ; Job 26:13
By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.

All three gathered into Elohim, Gen 1:1.

John 10:35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot
be broken;

2 Corinthians 4:3-6 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god
of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious
gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 5 For we preach not
ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. 6 For God,
who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of
the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 11:3 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God,
so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Psalm 33:6 6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the
breath of His mouth.

Some of the religious writers of the distant past emblematically represented this Gospel as the
“Eagle.” So piercing is it in its vision, so broad in ts sweep, so lofty in its flight, and withal so
inspiring the sunny azure through which, with unrestricted freedom, it disports its pinions, that it
may well be represented by the imperial bird.

John’s Gospel is pre-eminently the field for preachers,—supplying themes not only of boundless
variety, but of that soul-quickening, developing, and ennobling force, that can be found, not only
nowhere else in the book men call the Bible.

as to preach their little creeds rather than this Christ - preacher/churches preach more of their
ministry and congregation rather than teaching “Who really Christ is” – cause Christ Himself tells
us that all in the word of God testify about Him – Who He is – so it is given that to read the Bible
is to know Christ to reflect Christ to glory Jesus Christ – He is the fullness of the Godhead -
Colossians 2:9 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily
