BOILED WATER OR DEAD WATER

Prepared by Nelson Rajaratna- Pelican Pro- gas pvt.ltd

One of the basic parameters of boiled water is lacking of dissolved oxygen in it. With increase of
a few degrees of temperature, the so called oxygen will go off soon. Dissolved oxygen is very
essential for the body for its various metabolic functions. The only way to naturally protect its
dissolved oxygen and to increase more oxygen in drinking water is proper filtration. Further,
when water gets heated, the dissolved oxygen and other minerals may chemically combine and
form more complex substances.

Oxygen and life

The most vital element on earth is oxygen. Without it, human life could not exist. About 90% of
the body’s life energy is created by oxygen. In the early days of the earth, there was little
oxygen in the atmosphere, and the ozone layer which is essential for life did not exist. It took
billions of years for the primitive photosynthetic organisms in the sea to fill the atmosphere with
oxygen and prepare the earth for animals.

Today, about 23% of the air is oxygen. However, oxygen content is much lower in the urban
areas as low as 15% in some cities and it is getting lower year by year due to pollution and
devastation of forests. Then why do you boil your valuable potable water and evaporate all the
dissolved oxygen in vein while wasting costly energy… electricity, gas, firewood and any other.

Oxygen deficiency

It is found that the oxygen level in the ancient atmosphere measured about 70% higher than that
of today. Many of today’s sharpest scientific minds are growing concerned that the human body
is not getting near the levels of oxygen needed for peak health, vitality, immune system function,
and longevity. They point to growing body of evidence which suggests;
• the human body is meant to function at far higher concentration of oxygen than it is
currently getting
• the total dissolved oxygen content of most people’s bodies today is considerably lower
than what’s needed to maintain health, high energy levels and proper metabolism
• the lower the dissolved oxygen content is in a person’s body, the greater the body’s
susceptibility to chronic illness and disease.

Absorption of oxygen in the small intestine;

Without a doubt, the most effective method of getting oxygen is breathing with the lungs.
However, oxygen is also absorbed through the intestinal membrane along with ions, water and
other nutrients and goes directly into the blood stream. It is a known fact that eating oxygen rich
foods such as fresh vegetables and fruits, as well as drinking water with dissolved oxygen,
oxygenated beverages increases the oxygen level in our body which in turn improves our body’s
ability to create energy and expedite the waste removal process.

By using a proper filter to purify domestic water, any one can get benefits mentioned above. Our
filter is made after series of researches done by a professor of international Red Cross society of
America and the technology is transferred to a Sri Lankan under a full agreement, keeping its
patent with the inventor. Each and every part is made locally with original material; especially
2
the plastic container made out of a food grade plastic called Poly propylene. It is identified in
plastic industry as PP and no 5 in the recycle mark. This mark along with International Red
Cross mark is engraved in the PP container for customer care.

The filter element is made out of several types of clay found in Kelaniya and Yatiyana areas.
And special technologies used to make it in order to get the proper porosity. A Silver colloidal is
applied both the side of the filter element due to its bactericidal effect to kill pathogenic bacteria.
Normally the thickness of this filter is nearly one inch so that it is difficult to bacteria to find its
way to go through. This is the only filter available in Sri Lanka of this thickness. When water
slowly goes through this thick clay wall it gets potentised and dissolved more oxygen in the
water. Clay has other major actions like adsorption of chlorine, fluorine and minerals.

This clay filter element is made in a shape of a bucket; so that any one who wants to improve
removal of more minerals, chlorine and fluorine with heavy metals, can put brick particles,
activated carbon and granite chips into the filter element directly. In this way, the user can
increase the life span of the filter considerably. It has to be cleaned the filter element once a
month to maintain proper hygienic condition, if some one placed above said material in the filter
itself.

Water – availability, use and related deaths

• For the first time in history, the number of people without an improved sources or water
has dropped below one billion…. But this is no reason to sit back and relax because the
crisis isn’t over.
• Less than one percent of the world’s fresh water (about 0.007 % all water) on Earth is
readily accessible for direct human use.
• Around 3.575 million people die each year from water related diseases. And of, 43% are
due to diarrhea.
• About 84% of water related deaths are of children between the ages of 0 – 14.
• A majority of water related deaths (about 98%) occur in the developing countries.
• At any given time, more than half of the poor in the developing world are ill from causes
related to hygiene, sanitation and water supply.
• Every 15 seconds a child dies from a water related disease. About 1.4 million children die
as a result of diarrhea each year.
• Millions of children and women spend several hours a day collecting water from not only
distant but also often polluted sources which leads to illnesses.
• Around 884 million people lack access to safe water supplies. This is approximately one
in eight people.
• The daily requirement for sanitation, bathing and cooking needs as well as for survival is
about 13.2 gallons per person.
• The UN says each person needs 20 – 50 liters of safe water a day to ensure their basic
needs of cooking, cleaning and drinking.
• Even though the daily drinking requirement per person is 2 -4 liters, it takes 2000-5000
liters of water to produce on person’s daily food.
