POSITION: PEER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM CONSULTING TEACHERS

IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR INTERVIEW, APPLICANTS MUST:

1. Hold a valid California Credential


2. Have completed at least four (4) years of consecutive teaching experience
3. Not appointed to a site administrative position until two full years after the expiration of
their Consulting Teacher term

SALARY (Stipend):
 Five hundred dollars ($500) per year for a total of one thousand ($1,000) for
each two-year term for Consulting Teacher training and pre- and in-service.
 One thousand dollars ($1,000) per year for working with each Voluntary
Participating Teacher.
 Three thousand dollars ($3,000) per year for working with a Referred
Participating Teacher.

PEER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM CONSULTING TEACHERS

PURPOSE:
It is the intent of the Association (PEA) and the District to establish a Peer Assistance Program that enables exemplary
teachers to assist teachers in professional development. The focus of this program is to improve instruction, including
subject matter knowledge, strategies, and methods. This program is part of a coordinated effort by PEA and the District
to train, strengthen and retain employees.

DEFINITION:
 “Classroom teacher” or “teacher” means any member of certificated bargaining unit.
 “Consulting Teacher” means certificated bargaining member who is selected by the Joint Committee to provide
assistance to Referred and/or Voluntary Participating Teachers.
 “Evaluator” means the certificated administrator appointed by the Superintendent to evaluate a certificated
teacher.
 “Referred Participating Teacher” means bargaining unit member with permanent status who receives assistance
to improve his or her instructional skills, classroom management, knowledge of a subject and/or related aspects
of his or her teaching performance as a result of an unsatisfactory final evaluation.
 “Voluntary Participating Teacher” means any bargaining unit member (probationary or permanent) who
voluntarily participates in the Peer Assistance Program.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Assist participating teachers by demonstrating, observing, coaching, conferencing and referring, or by


other activities which in their professional judgment will assist the participating teachers.
 Meet with referred participating teachers to: discuss the Peer Assistance Program, establish mutually
agreed upon goals and objectives; develop an assistance plan; and develop a process for determining
successful progress in the Peer Assistance Program.
 Meet with Volunteer Participating Teachers to establish mutually agreed upon goals and objectives and
develop a plan to meet their needs.
 Log dates, times, and instructional area worked on with the Referred Participating Teacher and shall
provide periodic written feedback to the Referred Teacher for discussion and review.
 Consulting teacher will write final written report to make recommendations to the Joint Committee in
regard to the Referred Participating Teacher’s progress in the Peer Assistance Program. The report
should state if the Referred Participating Teacher did or did not participate fully in Peer Assistance, and
one of the following:
 Is making progress and continued participation in Peer Assistance Program is recommended; or
Made significant progress and continued participation in the Peer Assistance Program; or
Did not make progress in the Peer Assistance Program and it is not recommended to continue in the
program

QUALIFICATIONS:
 Valid California Credential
 Experience: A minimum of four consecutive years of classroom teaching experience. Demonstrate leadership
abilities in instructional programs and an ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Duration: Contracted Work Year
Salary: Stipends will be awarded to consulting teachers who are assigned to a referred and/or voluntary
participating teacher
