LESSON PLAN HLTH 2203

LESSON ORGANISATION (based on Australian Curriculum: Health & Physical Education)


Year Level: 5/6 Students’ Prior Knowledge:
- Students must bring their hat and water bottle

 Verbally list the key teaching points for bowling during the lesson closure

LESSON PROGRESSION
Time Motivation and Introduction (3mins):
2:00pm Bring the class together at a stationary meeting point. Introduce the week5 of the cricket programme (bowling).
Ensure students are aware that participation and good behaviour is expected, as well as team work and fair play.
Reinforce the ‘no hat no play’ rule and that every student brings a drink bottle.
- Ask 2 students to create a 20m x 20m grid using 14 cones, roughly 2m apart.
- Ask students to get into groups of 5 with 1 ball and 1 wicket per group. 1 person from each group will get the
equipment.

2:10pm Bridging organisation (3mins)


- Blow the whistle and get students to put down the cricket balls and listen to instructions
- Ask 1 student in each group to remove the wickets, another student to collect the cones, leaving the 4 cones on
the corners of the grid and 2 cones roughly in the middle.
- Students must now work in pairs and collect 1 ball per pair. Place the cricket balls on the ball.
- Split the class in half and allocate students the right or left side. Get pairs to stand in line with the cones so they
are facing opposite one another
2:13pm Drill 1 – Rock n Bowl (6mins) (MPA Ss1.2063) Grip and Bowling
Explain the key teaching points of how to grip a KTP’s:

2:19pm Bridging organisation (4mins)
- Blow the whistle and get students to put down the cricket balls and listen to instructions
- The teacher will create groups of 5 and 6 according to skill level and ability (this knowledge was gained from
watching students in the warm up and drill 1).
- Ask 1 student to collect the cones and put them away with the other equipment.
- Ask 1 member from each group to collect a wicket and 2 balls. Get students to create a circle using the wickets
and for students to place the balls next to the wickets.
2:23pm Drill 2 – Target Bowling (8mins) (MPA Grip and Bowling
Ss1.1061) KTP’s:
1 student will be the wicket keeper, 1 will be a  ‘Bunny Ears’

2:31pm Bridging organisation (2mins)


- Blow the whistle and get students to stop what they are doing and listen to instructions
- Get one student to collect 1 hoop and 1 bat for their group
2:33pm Drill 3 – Run Up (8mins) (MPA Ss2.2065) Run up and Bowling

2:41pm Bridging organisation (4mins)
- Blow the whistle and instruct 2 groups to keep their equipment out and to set up 15m x 15m grid using 4 cones.
With the wicket at one end of the grid in the middle of the 2 cones. The balls and bats are placed nearby
- All other students are instructed to quickly and neatly pack away their equipment
- Reinforce the key teaching points for the grip, bowling and the run up.
- Split students into 4 equal and fair teams of 8 (batting and bowling).
2:45pm Golden Child (12mins) (MPA Ss3.1067) (MPA Bowling KTP’s:

- Blow whistle and get students to listen to instructions
- Ask all student to help pack away, collect cones, bats, balls, wickets and put them neatly away
- Congregate near equipment and belongings for lesson closure
