Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Grade 2 Mathematics

Content category: Number and Number Sense

I: Topic: Reading Numbers up to 100 in Symbols and in Words

II: Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:

a. read numbers up to 100

b. recognize the order of numbers up to 100

Materials: pocket charts, flashcards, laptop

III: Procedures:

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Prayer

2. Checking of Attendance

3. Drill

 The pupil will sing a number song.

4. Motivation

 The teacher will distribute the flashcards to the pupils. Each pupil will
have 3 flashcards.
 Each time the teacher will call a number, the pupil who has that number
will stand and show his/her card.

B. Developmental Activity

1. Discussion

 The teacher will provide a chart containing numbers and their


corresponding values in words (given only 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and so on).
 The teacher will discuss the order of the numbers with their values in
words.
 While the teacher is discussing, the pupils can also participate through
citing the numbers in words in accordance with their prior knowledge.
 After the discussion, the pupils will be instructed to read and count again
the numbers plastered in the chart.
2. Application

The pupils will be grouped into two and they will be given some flashcards
of numbers in words and they will put it on the pocket chart pasted on the wall.

3. Generalization

The teacher will generalize the topic by leaving a message:

“Number plays a vital role in everyone’s life. In order to read numbers, they should
be familiarized, recognized, appreciated and inculcated in every learner’s mind for it can be
of great use in dealing with everyday situations. “(Give real life examples where students
can use reading numbers.)
