EI2356 Process control system laboratory

1. Implement a step response of interacting and non-interacting system and to


determine the transfer function of individual and overall system. (100)

2. Develop a suitable controller [which has two measurements and one


manipulation] for a process with following transfer function and obtain its
response through simulation.

3. Design a suitable controller [which takes control action before the load impact is
felt] for a process with following transfer function and obtain its response through
simulation.

4. Determine the transient response of a first order process with and without
transportation delay and second order process with and without transportation
delay to step change in input. (100)

5. a) Simulate the response of I order system with τ - 25 and K= 2 with


transportation delay of 20 sec and show that speed of response decreases with
increase in τ. (50)

b) Reduce the given transfer function into I order transfer function with delay
using MATLAB

6. Obtain the open loop response of a I order Electronic system with and without
transportation lag (Choose open loop gain = 3) and determine the time constant by
conducting suitable experiment. (100)

7. Conduct an experiment to record the transient response to a step change of first


order process and second order process for level process with and without
transportation lag and calculate the process gain, time constant and dead time of
the process from the step response. (100)

8. Design a PID controller (use open loop response method) for the given system
and obtain the response for r(t) = 5u(t) using MATLAB simulation
Gp(S) = 1 / (6S3+11S2+6S+1). (100)

9. Design a PID controller (use ultimate cycling method) for the given system and
obtain the response for r(t) = 3u(t) using MATLAB simulation
Gp(S) = 1 / (6S3+11S2+6S+1). (100)

10. Conduct an experiment to plot the response of P, P+I, P+I+D controllers for step
and ramp inputs. Also determine the calibration of the proportional, Integral and
derivative adjustments. (100)

11. Plot the flow-lift characteristics of the given control valve without positioner for
keeping constant and variable pressure levels. Also compute the valve gain at
different operating points. (100)

13. Conduct an experiment to compare the responses of closed loop flow control
system using PI mode for servo and regulator operation. Also comment on
response of the control loop for changes in the set point and load variable. (100)

14. Conduct an experiment to compare the responses of closed loop flow control
system using P, PI and PID modes. Also comment on response of the control loop
for changes in the set point and load variable. (100)

15. Design and construct a PID controller and tune the controller with the help of
Cohen and coon method using simulation. (100)

16. Design and construct a PID controller and tune the controller with the help of
Ziegler Nichol’s method using simulation. (100)

17. Determine the closed loop performance of a cascade control system and compare
it with that of conventional system. (100)
