Autumn Term Qi Gong Classes

New 13 week term starts Wednesday 12th September

Beginners class - 6.15-7.15 pm
Intermediate class - 7.30-8.30 pm
College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading

Qi Gong, also known as Chinese Internal exercise, is a complete

system of personal development that emphasises a sophisticated
approach to working the mind, the body and the breath in an
integrated way.

Unlike many exercise systems, this is achieved in a number of

progressive stages that focus on the development of the specific
qualities of softness, relaxation, whole body awareness and
mindfulness.
The impact of this approach is that the body begins to relax and
open, stress and tension reduce and a greater sense of well-being
develops.

In these classes, we focus on four main areas –

Core exercises and warm ups - a series of simple

exercises designed to relax, open, stretch and ultimately strengthen
the entire body.

Dragon and Tiger Qigong - a simple 7 movement Qi Gong form that

focuses on tracing the core channels of the body, while clearing and
smoothing the body’s vital energy, or chi.

Standing Qigong - learn a series of standing postures designed to

develop whole body integration through the development of specific
bio-mechanical alignments.
Internal Breathing & Body Awareness - mindful awareness of the
body, breath and mind is an integral aspect of Qi Gong practice. As
well as this we explore exercises to enhance and develop the body’s
breathing capacity.

Beginners Class Wednesday evening 6.15-7.15 pm

The beginners class will focus on learning and developing the core Qi
Gong skills of relaxation, body awareness, mindfulness and fluidity.
We will study the core movements of the entire dragon and tiger form,
as well as simple introductory standing Qi Gong practices.

Pre-requisites - None. Beginners class is open to all, regardless of

experience
Intermediate Class Wednesday evening 7.30 - 8.30 pm
Intermediate students will deepen their awareness of the core
principles of Qi Gong, and will explore both dragon and tiger Qi Gong
and standing practice in much more detail, aiming to develop a more
integrative approach to practice. They will also explore the more
intermediate levels of whole body breathing and look at how these
can be integrated into their practice. At this level, students will also be
introduced to mindfulness practices, and will learn further techniques
for releasing internal blockages and opening up the body.

Pre-requisites - Students must have completed at least one term of

the beginner’s course and have completed the seven core
movements of Dragon and Tiger Qigong to attend this class.
