The school rules at Draper Elementary and in the classroom are BE SAFE, BE KIND, BE RESPONSIBLE.
Assignments/Homework/Reading Minutes
A 5th grade student should not do more than 50 minutes of homework a night. Homework will NOT be anything
the student has not already be exposed to.
Assignments are due on the due date. See class websites/emails for additional details on class assignments and
projects on a daily basis.
Homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience in
school. Homework is given because it is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, prepares
students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility and helps students develop positive study habits necessary
for success. Daily Homework is posted on the weebly websites. The websites are listed below. Please bookmark
these websites. Daily homework is accessed through these websites.

Reading is essential. Each student should be reading approximately 30 minutes a night, 5 nights a week (20
minutes English and 10 minutes Chinese). Their total reading time for the month should be around 600
minutes. (Reading time is included as part of the 50 minutes homework time.) For them to read Chinese, they
need to know how to write, so Chinese characters and sentences daily practice are important. They can do 5
to 10 minutes Chinese characters writing and 10 to 15 minutes sentence writing every day.
Birthdays:
I will leave celebrating birthdays up to individual families. Sending a small item or treat as part of your child’s
birthday celebration is fine, but is not expected and is totally up to you. Our schedules are very tight and leave little
room to vary from the expected content, so if you wish to have a treat brought to school, it can be passed out five
minutes before lunch 12:05pm or before the school end 3:10pm.
Tests
The Majority of tests are given at class on Canvas. Parents can access scores when teacher update on Canvas.
School Supplies:
Draper Elementary School will provide the basic school supplies such as pencils, crayons, notebooks and paper.
Expo Markers will be provided to students in August and January. Expo Markers should last a long time if
they are taken care of properly. Therefore, if your student fails to put the lid on tightly, slams the felt tip all the
way inside, or any other mishap occurs and the marker does not work before the students are issued a new Expo
Marker, you will need to provide an Expo Marker for your student.
Technology
If your student has a cell phone, the cell phone will need to stay in your student’s backpack (Each student has
access to a Chrome book in class.)
Donations
We appreciate and are so grateful for your donations to the classroom. Items that go fast are little prizes for the
treasure boxes, tissues, hand sanitizer, Lysol wipes, and kitchen napkin.
Consequences:
Students will be given three opportunities throughout the year to follow all rules regarding classroom devices. If the
three strikes are used, the student will forfeit their device usage and alternate assignments will be given.
If a student has inappropriate items, messages, or cyber bullies another student, the student will receive an instant
referral to administration and loss of classroom device privileges.
I love having the ability to enhance student learning with technology. We use this technology in every subject. I
invite parents and families to visit during this time to see how the technology is implemented in the classroom. Our
children are growing up in a generation that is going to see more job growth in computer science fields and will be
required to have basic computer programming skills in the future job market. I look forward to seeing your child use
this technology to further their education!
*REMEMBER: What you put on the Internet, stays on the Internet! Think before you do it!
I, _____________________________, understand the classroom device rules and agree to follow them throughout
