IN-CW3318 Indiana Crop Weather August 20, 2018

Statewide Rainfall Continued

Continued rainfall further rejuvenated soil moisture last week
boosting crop development, according to Greg Matli, State
Statistician, USDA, NASS, Indiana Field Office. The above Corn Condition
average rainfall across the State replenished moisture in many
fields that may have missed previous rain events. The average 60

Percent
temperature for the week was 74.4 degrees, 1.5 degrees above 40
normal for the State. The amount of rainfall varied from 0.06
inches to 3.92 inches during the week. The statewide average for 20 2018
precipitation was 1.65 inches. There were 4.1 days available for 0 2017
fieldwork for the week ending August 19.

The rain events in the latter half of the week provided much
needed moisture to most of the State, slightly improving soybean
conditions and aiding grain fill in corn. Dry conditions in the
beginning of the week gave farmers an opportunity to cut and bale
hay and make progress with commercial tomato and mint harvest.
Livestock were reported to be in good condition, benefitting from
improved pasture conditions. Other activities for the week Soybean Condition
included hauling grain, mowing roadsides, spraying fields, and
60
attending the State Fair.
