Activity 2: Bingo
How to play
• Divide the class into three teams. Give each team one card. In large classes,
use six teams and make two copies of each card.
• Explain that you will read out sentences in the active voice, and the teams must
try to find a sentence with the same meaning, but in the passive, on their card.
As an example, write these two sentences in the passive voice on the board:
A You’ve already been sent copies of our latest catalogue.
B The latest catalogues are currently being sent out.
Read out the sentence below and ask the students which sentence, A or B,
on the board expresses the same idea in different words.
We’re distributing our new catalogues at the moment. (matches with B)
• Allow the students a couple of minutes to read the sentences on their card.
• Read sentences from the list at random. (Tick the ones you’ve used as you
go along.) The first team to put up their hands and give the correct answer
can cross that sentence out on their card.
• Continue reading out sentences from the list until one team has crossed out
all their squares and thus won the game.

Sentences to be read out (answers in brackets)
